I talked to FAE on the phone and was told with '17 had a few options even though the site doesn't show them. I actually think she said they were updating the site but can't remember for sure and guess isn't too important for my story.
option 1 was get the unit direct from FAE just like previous years with external mounting. with or without blended welds.
option 2 was get the unit direct from FAE with thru hull mounting. with or without blended welds. with or without restrictive baffle replacement.
option 3 was get mandrel bend FAE from Tigé dealer.

We went with option 2 with all the additional options and had our dealer install it for us. Thought freeheel4life did it but maybe it was on his day off.
Christina @ FAE was awesome. I think I called and left a voicemail after 5pm her time and she called back that night to talk to me about all the options. Explained it to me on the phone and then sent a follow up email so I could remember all we talked about.

Oh I was there, though our other tech did most of it. I pulled the easy straw and ran hardware on the transom side and set the pipe angle as you can clock it a few degrees either way with the slotted holes on the transom flange. He got to be the nut guy in the bilge. Sometimes the pigeon, sometime the statue. I was flying on your install.
If I recall your pipe was so clean it could easily pass for the bent pipe unless you had your nose right on it and really knew what you were looking for. All in all my only beef was some of the instructional literature(photocopied with stuff crooked and running off the page) and they sent the wrong size hardware to mount it. Have a full selection of stainless hardware so wasnt the end of the world, but still. Also if I recall they sent some precut pieces that go on the flange with a radius cut into them. I believe FAE wants those on the bilge side. We mirrored theirs and built some matching ones so that we were spreading surface area on both the gel and inside of bilge. I felt like it was not much surface are on the outside without em and would stress the heads(also recall seeing something similar to that exact thing around here so, ya, I cheated). That's why I'm here though, to learn from others

That's what I remember at least, for whatever good that is. In the 4 years I've been at the shop that's the first FAE anyone has ever brought us so it was fun.

Any marks on the FAE, like maybe it was hit or did the screw heads just pop off?

Nothing on FAE except for snapped bolts

Did the platform get moved up instead of getting trimmed to keep it from cutting into the wave??

Do you know if they were the #12 screws or the #14 that broke?

Potential stupid question—is that black flange supposed to be there? Isn’t that from the old flapper?

Like I said, potentially stupid question.

Yes it is. The FAE literally replaces the rubber inside the flange. This way you don't have to mess with removing the flange and the exhaust hose on the inside of the transom. The flange now gets sandwiched between the FAE and the transom.

On that version. The version NAstleford got was different and you boot everything and mount the stainless flange on the pipe straight to the gel coat. Lots of changes in a short time it seems.

That’s how mine is. Directly abutted.

Yes it did, it sat odly low in the water too.

I’m not totally sure but I do know we added slightly larger ones.

FAE is now suggesting to toss the rubber gasket they supplied and instead bed it with 5200. I too one a step further and used stronger zinc screws over stainless. In to season #2 and no issues.
