Boat Dogs?

We just got a Siberian Husky puppy and I'm wondering how it will be with her on the boat. We do not want to leave her home all day, so I'd love to hear some tips/ideas for boating with dogs. The lake we typically go to has private homes all along it's shore, so no convenient land.

Keep their nails trimmed and don't leave them alone on the boat....too tempting to chew the nice upholstery.

Huskys a cold weather dogs, they will over heat fast. I’d keep the Bimini up for shade.

Brush her before you get on! I left my friend bring her husky one time, first and last time a dog ever got on my boat. Found hairs years later. Damn huskys and their thick hair.

I could see this being ok with some smaller dogs but problems and damage are bound to happen with a dog, especially the larger breeds. Puppies love to chew on things and a hyper dog could be a big issues in multiple ways. I have 120lb German Shepard, he is very well trained, but a big dog like that will tear up my vinyl for sure. Don't care how well you clip nails, its gonna scuff the vinyl and when you start/stop...its their nature to "dig in".
I have a friend that bought a boat from owners that took their dogs out, its a 2014 and especially the SeaDeck on the swim platform is torn all too hell from the dog nails, vinyl torn in some places and the bilge and every crevice was FULL of dog hair. For me, No Thanks!

Our four year old 100 pound German Shepherd goes everywhere with us, including boating. He’s unbelievably well behaved. I brush him very well before heading out and a thorough vacuuming of the boat after each outing. He’s welcome anywhere in the boat and we’ve never had a problem. We have a life vest for him (with handles across the top) which makes plucking him out of the water and back into the boat very easy. He is very vocal though when one or more of us are in the water- which can be tiring at times, but that’s mainly attributed to the bread.

We only allow our dog on the boat, no others what so ever. He has short hair so don’t really need to worry about that. Being a rescue he is literally the calmest dog you will ever meet and 90% of the time he sleeps under the steering wheel and people don’t know he’s there.

Boat Dogs?

There are some rubber/plastic deals called Soft Paws you can use on your dogs nails. I don’t remember the specifics. But apparently they work pretty well. I bought the biggest ones they had for my 135lb bloodhound and they still didn’t fit. But it seemed like a great idea. He only goes on sunset cruises when almost no one else is on the boat. I put about 15 towels in the bow so he can lay down. It’s a shame he can’t go more. But his nails really would do some damage. So he stays at the dock.

^thats a small horse man! Haha! Love seeing well behaved pups on the boat. I miss mine like crazy. I had an 85 pound yellow lab that went absolutely everywhere with me. She was cool as the other side of the pillow. She liked to sleep in the boat when we were at the lake camping. No snakes or scorpions to snuggle up in her bed with her. As soon as it got dark she’d be sitting by the bow waiting for the ok to get in. I think she loved Lake Powell more than me!

Keep your pups nails trimmed and filed dull and the vinyl will be fine. The hair is another story but if you vacuum regularly it’s worth it to bring em. Of course you could opt for this haircut...

This dog loves the boat she know when the boat keys are grabbed and the boat launch card key. But this is about photos. I am good with this because she doesn’t shed and mostly sits in the bow or sleeps when under way. If I still had my 105lbs chocolate lab I don’t think he would be on the boat.
