    Cover help for 98 Pre2100

I just bought a new to me boat that didn't come with a cover. It had what looked like a factory tower that was in pretty bad shape so I replaced it with a monster tower and utilized the factory holes.

My question is since I have an aftermarket tower, do I need to buy a custom cover? I just got a quote for $1400. I see a ton online for around $500, but don't know what will fit.

Also, this is my first boat, so what other things should I be considering in a cover?

if you used the stock holes for the new tower. Then a stock cover should fit.

What that cover is/where to get one I have know idea. I think my buddies 2004 22v would fit my 2000 21v but never tried it.
welcome to the forum post up some pics of the new ride.

          Welcome

Where are the tower legs attached? Are they on the top or sides?

Thanks for the responses. I haven't been able to figure out how to post a pic. I will keep trying.

It has legs attached to the top.

This is what it looked like before I swapped towers.

This is after with the Monster tower.

Again if you used the same holes as the old tower the stock cover will fit. Nice looking boat.

But are there any recommendations specific covers? I know just about nothing about boat covers. I assume they need to be breathable so they don't hold in water if you put the cover on right after running the boat, but aside from that not sure what to consider.

There are a couple of options. Depending on where you keep your boat is how I would choose. If outside 365 no roof or anything. I would get a custom or a heavy canvas cover. They will both cost you more than a stock light weight one. but will protect your investment a lot longer. My boat is outside 24/7 365 It came with a good cover. Heavy canvas, But I still have to take care of it. Waterproof it a couple times a year. A full custom vinyl type cover that would take less maintenance. It will cost you a lot more. I have seen them they are nice. I think you still have to keep UV protectant on them. So do you need something to just keep the dust off when in the garage? or something to keep a little rain off because it is in a slip,or under a carport? Dose it see the full brunt of the outside? If and when mine goes bad I would get a full custom vinyl. With zip on side skirts for the long summer weeks (like vacation) and winter. The skirts would save me from "The Winter Wax". I put cheep turtle wax on thick and don't remove it till spring. It is a tough to get off, but keeps a good protective layer on gelcoat.

I added a Monster Tower to my 2200v. I could not find a cover so I went custom. I paid $1,100 for sunbrella which is very expensive but the cover stil lokks new 8 years later! Dont go cheap on the material!

Grumby, thanks for the points. My boat will spend winters in a garage and spring/summer/fall under a car port, so minimal rain.

I have scoured the net and have yet to find one that is for a 1998 pre2100 with a tower. Maybe I am mistaken and the tower that came with my boat wasn't actually stock. I found a place in Austin that says they'll do a custom one for $1400, but that seems like a lot to me when I just need one to protect under a car port.

Go get a quote on how much it cost to replace the vinyl in your boat to learn that a boat cover is a WISE investment! Your boat will be covered in dust, bugs and others things if you keep it under a car port without a cover.
