R21 surf

This is just a little something for a guy that's been having trouble with his r21. Hopefully this helps..

Here's me. I'm fat, like 275lbs of fat. Note the little bit that hangs out below the jacket. Riding a Ronix 5'1" Lunatic. Literally the first time I rode that board all year. Normally on a Blender but it was out on a demo so rode the Lunatic

I brought along a guy that has NEVER surfed before but has some wakeboarding and snowboarding experience. This is his 3rd pull

He started feeling it after a few more pulls

Here's my wife back on the regular side

I was busy driving and forgot to mention that I really wanted to see the wave closeout at the end of each ride without a rider to my "videographers". Wave probably could have been longer but didnt have anyone in the bow. Only 6 on board, so 5 with 1 riding. I'm not a nazi about making people sit where they need to be but rather let them ride where they want.
Taps 3 varying between 3 and 4 on both sides depending on people placement in boat. I ran 400lbs of lead regular side and only 100 on the goofy. Prop rotation and my big butt on the starboard side usually cleans up the goofy wave pretty quick. Had to run center plate at 2 to keep the bow down. With one or two bodies in the bow it would have been perfect. Never a taps3 at 1
No throwover weight added. Hopefully this helps.

Good looking wave and awesome that your buddy picked it up so quickly! The R21 kicks a$$, just need to know how to set it up.

Do you know what ballast the boat is running stock?
My 2015 Z1 came with the wake pro ballast, so I feel it a little short of the max available from the factory. I have thought about some lead but have not pulled the trigger yet. I have always thought that the inability to go without the rope was the riders not the boat.

It's the Surf XL factory ballast. I'm not sure what size the wake pro bags are but if they are the smaller oval bags that didnt extend forward then a bag upgrade is going to help plus some lead in the right places. Are you running your 15 listed or with a shaper??
EDIT: Didnt notice in your tag that your 15 had taps3. XL plus a bit of lead was how we ran the boat.

Nice looking wave man! Would you consider throwing 100lbs of lead in the front the bring the nose down a bit? That's what I'm contemplating because when I had the boat out this past weekend with 3 adults and 2 kids I couldn't get the nose down to save my life with 250lbs of lead in the back on each side....

For sure. I ended up having my wife drive the boat towards the end of the night and I moved up to the bow. So a quick 275lbs, and I was sitting surf side just in front of the windshield. Then we were able to bring center plate back up to a 3 and wave was a little bit better. The thing about the R21/z1 wave is I've never seen it get that long, at least compared to a 23ft hull, but it certainly is surfable and took very little setup and tweaking. We sure had fun!!

Don't forget to put a guarantee on the box that calls out to me, "I'll never let you down..."

Sweet! Looks like lots of fun. We finally got our R21 to make a good wave on the starboard side. We toggle between surf left and off everytime we stop or the speed drops below surf speed. I think it been a bad controller this entire time.
Glad to hear you are finally getting it sorted out.
