Cover Strap rubbed hull in transit.

I hardly ever travel with my cover on, bet we were going through 2hours of rain and storms on the way home and I didn't want the inside of the boat covered in wet road grime.

Anyway as you see in the pictures the tie down strap rubbed the hull pretty bad. Any advice on what to do to clean it up. I washed and spray waxed, and hand buffed. The rub is the same but now very shiny.

Get some cut polish wax and an electric polisher. I prefer mezerna fast gloss 400 which will totally take anything out with a wool pad. Then apply some sealant or glossy shine wax.

For next time don’t use the tie down strap there is no need and if you’re going to tow with the cover for long tows I’d consider wrapping rub rail area with palet wrap.

But if you do see the need, you can wrap those straps with either seat belt pads like these; https://www.walmart.com/ip/Majic-Mem...lack/162738382 or with copper tube covers like this; https://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Buil...0150/100665768

Once you have either of these on, covering the strap as much as possible, cinch them up with zip-ties. We have towed our boats 4-5 hours at a time and this really helped protect the gel coat. Although their might not be a need in many cases as mentioned, I would much rather have everything secure when towing long distances.

We’ve towed all the way down into Idaho without that strap and cover never moved. My dealer even said don’t bother opening the package for it.

all you need to make the straps from rubbing is twist them before you buckle them, all semi truck loads have a twist in their tie downs for that reason. I personally have to twist mine quite a few times but they never fly around. as for the scratch I has some pretty bad ones on my boat when I bought it and used a random orbital polisher with chemical bros polish. the more I worked it the better it came out.

1/2 of a twist is enough, think of it as a blade of grass you blow on between your fingers. If it is not straight you wont get it to whistle.
