    New DSP Amps

I've been busy as hell with BABz. But I've started to hear about these new non adjustable DSP amps on the new Tiges. Does anyone have these yet? This was a post off the Tige facebook group from Tim White of Wetsounds....

"The factory DSP amps are pre tuned from the factory. They cannot be adjusted just like any automotive high end car. You cannot take your Cadillac and “re tune” the BOSE system. This is the way it is on an oem car and the way the marine oem side is moving to. You get a reliable high performance system with less warranty issues. It does make the amps obsolete if you plan to add more and go bigger. Just like automotive oem. This reason why is the same reason why the automotive oem audio systems are done this way. It is for a long lasting high performance system. We are always adding updated tunes and pushing to get more output while maintaining that safe level. The factory systems are very high performing factory marine audio systems. But they are built to be a balance. You can get the most recent tune and re flash to a new oem tune if you would like. Or you can email chad@wetsounds.com or jay@wetsounds.com. Sorry for those that may have been told different from my office. We have a lot of new sales guys and new tech guys that just didn’t know."

This move by wetsounds totally makes sense. But it has me wondering if the enthusiast side of tige owners is going to start ordering boats without audio setups, which used to be an option. Not sure if it is now. I've even heard of some dealers immediately removing these amps for adjustable ones. What are everyone thoughts on this?

I'm not at all an audio enthusiast, but I was surprised and disappointed at the output of the system on my boat. You'd think a boat with (6) 8" in boats would rock pretty hard all by themselves. They essentially do nothing. I'd say 90% of my sound comes from my 2 rev 10's and 2 rev 8's on the tower. In the past, with any home, car, boat system, I've never felt the need to go over 50% on the master volume. With this system I'm usually at 75-80 while underway.
With my last boat it was a simple conversation over the phone with Mike and my amps were dialed in and sounded much better. Now I have to find a local wetsounds dealer and drag my boat to them.

This is just another example of Big Brother taking over. Everyone out there seems to know how to run my life better than I do. I say, let me choose and if I screw it up then let it be on me. In this case I'm sure it's not hard for wetsounds to know if I did something to blow up an amp, so they don't have to worry about covering my mistakes under warranty. Maybe this line of amps is built super cheap and they just needed a way to ensure they get through the warranty period?

The DSP amps went in to the Tige line up on the 2017, so with the 2019's rolling out, its entering the 3rd year model.

Tige is not the only one offering DSP audio and Wet Sounds is not the only brand supplying DSP. I think its more of a move on the part of the boat builders, and companies like Wet sounds are just keeping up with the times and being able to supply this desired option. And an option it is. Wet Sounds still has its full line of traditional amps. I think Tige still offers a base level and a more full system audio option, as well as audio-delete. if after demoing the OEM system and you feel your bench mark is higher, then order the base or delete, and build from there. This has been done for years and can still be done.

As to the build quality. The DSP amps are the exact same as the non-DSP, just minus the external tuning controls and with the addition of the program port and DSP. These are not cheap off-breeds. In fact, Wet Sounds is exploring offering the DSP amps to the general consumer down the road.

As to damaging equipment. Yes, the DSP is a means to help reduce consumer damaged equipment, cant fault Tige for wanting to manage this, right? We cant re-tune our Indmar ecm's right? We cant write a custom program for our Medallion or Murphy help system, right? At this point, you can conclude why a speaker blew, but proving it is the hard part. If the amp is re-tuned with a consumer specific custom tune and a speaker blows, Tige has no way to tell there is a custom tune. even if the amp is also sent back to Tige. The tune is not retrievable from the amp.

On my installs, I note the settings when im done. If there is an issue down the road, I quick look and I will know something has been touched. Thanks to also taking pictures, I caught the owner of a large dealership lying to my face that his tech did not mess with an install. I showed him the finished pics that had been loaded to my web site the day the boat was delivered back to owner then showed him a pic I took the week before, after making a trip up the road to fix an issue with the stereo. Without this to info to have my back, it would have been on me. So point is, Tige has to control and manage warranty. Why? Because its an expense that gets passed on to consumers eventually. Neither the boat builder, nor their vendors, want failed equipment.

DSP has been in cars/trucks for years. its nothing new, just new to boats.

Heres a thread about the OEM system break downs

I would of preferred the option of non-DSP.
        And you do.

I did hear that dealers may be getting the tuning donagal
Tige dealers have access to the latest factory tunes. Independent audio dealers getting factory tunes? nope.

So Mike, do you know how wetsounds tunes these amps? Just before clipping begins or a much "safer" setting? I'm assuming its on the safer side, hence they are coming out with new tunes that I again assume are more aggressive. Just seems to me that they know exactly what speakers are going into an RZX and could tune it for max performance without clipping. That's where you helped me get my last amps set at. But you are saying I should be able to take my boat to the dealer and they might be able to get more out of my system, right?
