NooB intro and a few questions

Hello there Tige owners! My family and I are enjoying our 2015 Z1 with Taps 3 and are excited to learn as much as possible from this group along the way. We live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and bought our boat this past spring.

I was hoping you all might chime in with some suggestions on motor oil for the Raptor 400. I have used the search feature but haven’t found exactly what I wanted to read about. I found Indmars specs for their oil and filter but it’s not sold anywhere near me or online. Do any of you all run full synthetic? I am considering running Schaeffers as I’ve had great success with it in my race truck. Do you all have a part number for the filter you prefer?

Has anyone run into this code? The boat seems to be running fine but I don’t want to ignore it... it did clear after killing power to the batteries and turning the boat back on. Hasn’t come back but it’s still in the back of my mind... any help is appreciated.

Welcome. I believe that is an O2 sensor. Mine did it to and cleared itself I think moisture get on it causing it not to read right then dries and clears.

I got that code along with a few others and I believe it was a sensor, maybe O2 I honestly can’t remember. Didn’t go away. Sometimes sensors have a little hick up but even if it were to be going off should be no harm.

For the oil as long as it’s the right specs and not some cheap no name you should be fine.

NooB intro and a few questions

I recently had a new Raptor 400 put in my 15 RZ4 directly from Indmar. I did a ton of research on oils and the raptor 400 thinking I wanted to run full synthetic like I do in my f350. The consensus I got from other and indmar themselves is you must run a semi synthetic in the early stages of the motor. I believe it was the first 100 hours. After that, they still recommend you run the semi synthetic. But you could theoretically use something else. Although I don’t know why you would. The indmar line of oil they recommend for the life of the motor is a semi synthetic as well. Motocraft makes it in the 5w30 that’s recommended. You can find it at your local auto parts store. I’m also attaching a list of ford part numbers that work with the raptor 400. I went with the mobile 1 filter.

Edit: also, save yourself the trouble and pick up a mityvac to change the oil. Run the boat around for a bit so the oil is warm. Hook up the mityvac and you’ll get every drop out. You can find a small plastic or brass attachment at home depot that fits directly on the drain line coming off the engine.

Indmar recommends semi-synthetic because that is what they test the motors on. You can run full synthetic (it's better oil) with no issues.

Unfortunately we don’t have any lakes super close to ABQ.. all of the lakes we go to are a few hours away. Our favorite lake to go to is Navajo Lake in northern NM. We also go to Elephant Buttte (southern NM) which is two hours away and every September we go to Lake Powell for a week (time share) on my family’s houseboat.

Here is a link to Indmar that list oil requirements and also states that full synthetic is OK.

That’s kinda what I figured, didn’t recall seeing much water when flying over ABQ.
I’m heading to Navajo in September, I’ll be camping on the Colorado side but that lake is awesome!
