How do you remember to insert the drain plug?

Full disclosure - I take my drain plug out twice a year. I’m that guy. I know that if I do I’ll forget to put it back. These ConvexV hills are terrible for draining anyways so removing it does nothing.

However western Canada is starting to run check stops. My fellow Tigé owners informed me that I should be removing it during transit.

So as I embark on my annual Shuswap trip I pulled the plug and came up with this idea.





This is from my suitcase luggage tag I get from Air Canada each year. They are stainless, threaded and go through the plug perfectly. I want to leave it permanently attached to the plug so I don’t lose it.

I’ll report back if this works.

What ideas do you have?

I used to keep mine in the transom bin and put it in when the transom straps come off. Its mainly habit, and would get forgotten at least once a season.

I never removed mine during the season. remove end of year and replace after boat is drained out.
never had a problem doing this with either the tige or supra.

I put both of mine in the cup holder at the drivers helm. and look in there before putting the key in the ignition. Every time!!! Forgot my plug 10 years ago caught it wright a way no damage. but scary.so I put this in my regiment After that. Works good for me.

Put mine in when I put the swim platform on after pulling out of the garage.

I just keep mine in the rear cup holder so it’s right there. But I also keep a spare on the driver key and one in the boat toolbox.

I always put it back in before putting the cover on, but it just so happens that i forgot this weekend. Mine is now rubber banded to the key-not the keychain, but the key so i cannot put the key in without putting my hand on the plug.

Told my paranoid 8 year the boat will sink if it's not in. GET REMINDED EVERY TIME BEFORE BACKING IT IN

I do this is well as there have transom cupholders on all Tiges for a while.
Since I'm also always taking random boats to the lake for service I also keep one in my center console.

^^sorry for the derail but for guys that trailer this one has saved my butt, but more often than not it gets other people out of bind and out of my way at the ramp.

Become a robot do the exact same thing every time u launch and pick up. Ie: turn batts on. Turn ignition on so fan come on. Undo left strap put in plug take off right strap. And just do it the same way ever single time. Whatever order u want. Anyhow that’s what I do. Plug come out every time I pull boat out.

We remove the plug after every trip and put it in when we launch on the first day of the next trip. My wife’s job is to ask if the plug is in and transom straps are off before we back the boat down the ramp.

Being extremely paranoid of leaving mine out, I always shoved that uncomfortable hunk of metal up my A&&! Haven't forgotten yet. While it made for a long work week I couldn't be more excited for the next weekends boating time. I don't want to talk about the long offseason. Maybe that's why I'm always smiling on the boat! This year the boat is in a slip and life is great!

I made the mistake last year of forgetting to put it in and quickly got myself back to the boat launch jumped out and did it under water as I didn't even have time to try and get back on the trailer. I was idling away from the boat launch and was about 150 yards away when I tried to go full throttle and the boat would get up on plane. After checking a few things I looked out back and then noticed how low my rear was in the water....Oh S###!! Back to the dock. I had just got to our summer house the day before and as you mentioned Johnnie I had my plugged pulled and forgot to put it back in.

As you always learn a lesson the hard way I double check the plug is in even if I know I didn't pull it the trip before. Part of my start up routine as Dukes mentioned.

I usually now put it back in before I leave my driveway on the way to the lake.....I still check again even before launching. Don't even trust myself.lol.
