Haha!! The small is supposed to be good enough for 23s, even.. my buddy talked to the dude that started the company. The large is overkill, but a little extra insurance against the jerk skiers that slam rollers into the boats parked on the beach!!

      Box anchor tips?

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. Much appreciated.
I also have two Danik hooks on that setup. One where it says tie loop where the anchor buddy and normal line come together. One further up the line. This way if I’m under 40ft I just use the tie loop hook. Over 40 it all goes in the water and I can use the other hook further up the line. Those danik hooks are amazing.

This is a video I made awhile back explaining the system. It is a bit elementary. But I made it for the rare chance my family members are out there without me. But the whole setup can look a bit confusing when it’s all in the boat. I also use the large box anchor. Which is def overkill. But oh well! Just I heads up it is much heavier than the small.

I love/hate this forum. Every thread I read I'm like well there is a new toy I NEED. Didn't even know these were a thing. Always used a fluke style with limited success, now I have a grapnel style that works pretty good even though we have nothing but mud on the bottom of our lakes here. Definitely getting the anchor buddy now too, and a heavy kettle bell over mushroom anchors from now on. Think one of these would work well in the mud?

Mud/Rocks I know the kettle ball works. Sand not so well. But might with one of the bungie things. but don't think it would compare to the box. That thing looks Bad A$$ you can see how it would work in sand.

I switched back toa fortress fluke style for anchoring. Our 20ft RZR would drag the medium box all over the lake in a Florida afternoon storm. I was always out there resetting. I tried everything the anchor buddy, plus 8 feet of chain the proper length of line for the depth. Nothing worked. Mud bottom. Sandy bottom on shallow sandbars for anchoring and swimming it works fine. But i don't trust that thing otherwise.

Friend has this one and it is awesome - https://www.mantusmarine.com/mantus-anchors/

We have a fortress which aren't cheap plus the box which isn't cheap so the misses will not let me buy one of these.

I will always spend money on something that makes a day on the water easier. The main cove on Travis is deep and has quite a bit of wind. Boats are constantly coming loose. You would not believe how many people I see that have 150k+ boats and POS anchors/line (this goes for fenders too *wink*). The last two times I’ve been out there, I’ve had guys tie up without ANY anchor.

My box anchor (small) used to constantly pop loose before I put the anchor buddy in. Now the only time I’ve come free is when there are multiple boats tied up and I find out they aren’t properly anchored. So essentially I’m holding everyone. Although I also now have the large. I have heard great things about the fortress anchors. But man they are expensive. Which one do you have? That mantis anchor also looks interesting.

We have the fortress fx-7. Can be had for 99.99 from overtons. This is the only anchor I will use. Holds in Florida storms which are crazy and often in the summer.

I’m not sure how I feel about that ^^^^ particular test. But the mantis anchor really has me interested. It seems to set almost instantly like the box. In this test the guy gets all the way to 1.3 scope before it really starts moving.

Thats weird man, I’ve had no issues at all in some significant storms while anchored in a couple different muddy bottom lakes with a small box anchor. 07’ 22VE. I use an anchor buddy and shore spike with a loose line so the boat can turn in the wind to an extent. I try to keep a pretty gentle slope on the anchor line. I think most anchors (with a couple exceptions) just need to be set right(Not saying you don’t know how). Some are just harder to set than others, and I see people struggle with it pretty routinely. Usually friends of mine so I get to point and laugh
I think most people just don’t use them enough.
That said, I find the box anchor grabs really well almost immediately when I’m setting it.

I’ve been really happy with my small box anchor on my 22v. It seems to hold tight in mud or rocks. I’m often the only anchor when we raft up with a couple of our friends with similar sized boats.

I set mine on Friday morning and it never moved once through Sunday afternoon. It didn’t really see any major wind action but it did see some G surfwake action. Very happy so far. One thing I love is size once folded. My anchor storage is extremely shallow so it’s a nice fit for my boat.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Just an update for those interested. I bought one of the Mantus anchors and it arrived yesterday. I'll report back with my thoughts.
