I didn’t. That was the sticker price that was on it. I just used that number because that’s what Tige had written on it. I paid low 90’s with 27 hours on it.

So you are running all the weight you have, 11-12 people plus 700 of lead and trying to get the boat to wakeboard speed? Is that what im reading?

IIRC he cant even get to surf speed with that setup.

We often ran a 2016 just like yours at 1100 feet elevation with about 1500 extra pounds and it people and extra ballast above factory. On hot days, sometimes it would struggle. At our elevation. But, we would just back off and surf it anyway.

Agreed. It is wild how hull shape and boats size/"curb" weight plays in. We took a an 18 R23 out this summer and run 400 in lead in each rear locker, and 250 up front and I can remember if it was 8 or 10 adults. The 400 pushed it just fine, albeit at about 9-10 GPH. Seems like the bigger boats have a lot more keel in the water up front and hull shape is a big source of drag.
The 24ft Tomcat we rolled a couple times is the same, and the m60 powerplant just couldnt push the weight it needed IMO. Would live to apples apples compare with an older Tomcat with a PCM 409.

Hellllll no!!!! I can’t hit 11mph with that setup.. always stops at 10.6-10.8.. I surf at 12... the very most I can wakeboard with is like 8-10 people and 0 ballast, or like 20% ballast and 3-5 people.. and that’s stretching it.. part of the thing that made me think this boat sucks is when I tried to explain to my dealer that I couldn’t hit surf speed full, his response was “you should be able to hit wakeboard speed with full ballast”. Luckily none of us are stud wakeboarders, and no or very little ballast is plenty of wake, still. I fully understand not being able to hit 21 with a bunch of weight, 11 is a different story..

He buys boats outside of Boise because we are hip to his game and sales wont come down to his price on boats just to have him sell them right back into our territory(he puts the boats on CL at the end of every summer) . He mostly finds holdover boats and just keeps harping on the dealer until he gets them down on the boat. Part thats really annoying is he will say whatever he needs to to get a dealer to sell the boat out of their territory. Im sure Zackdogg will verify he didnt get a truthful story from seller at the time of sale.
At the time we would order the RZX with a 575 ONLY. UNSTUCK's is the first 440 with a 2:1 that got tried out at our elevation in our area. Even at that though we have had 3 customers order RZX3s with 575s because they want to run lots of weight and at higher elevation than Boise(5k +) so our sales guy told them the 440 w/ 2:1 wouldnt cut it. We had a customer order a Supra SE last winter and customer decided he didnt want the 575 when he ordered. Hes trading back in and wants to order a new SE with a 575 this fall.
General point is SC is still the answer for big boats unless they are staying down here in town or lower. Sucks Zackdogg got hustled a bit. Same offer stands Zack, we can also handle a 2:1 swap if you decide to go that route. Sorry you arent happy with your boat. Thats a rough spot to be, especially when you make that payment. Good luck man.
You’re the one guy that knows the full story, on here, and you’ve given me plenty of good advice, and info that I wouldn’t have without having talked to you.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I would have a SC boat, and will in the future, with what I know now.. I think the 2:1 is the second best fix, and we may be talking about that at some point. I’m really struggling with whether do I live with this boat as is, dump money into this boat, or buy something else. I literally battle with it daily, and don’t know what that answer is going to be.. crappy thing is this boat is so close, it just can’t quite get there.. it is going to suck if I have to pay $12k for 1.5mph... if I could do something for $5k, which is about what I thought I could get close to supercharging it, which is how this whole conversation even started, it would already be in the process..

And that’s what we do. We just dump some weight, and have fun. I know I’m, and everyone that even has a boat, is more fortunate than a lot of people. I’m grateful that I have the things I do. Life could be a million times worse than my surf boat not making a big enough wave, and I fully realize that. I do honestly want to know if I’m doing something wrong, my boat is wrong, if I’m a complete idiot for having the expectations that I do, or whatever else. At the same time, I have a product that I’m dissatisfied with, and these forums are supposed to be a place that people can express that, whether it’s out of frustration or to warn the next guy, or whatever. I am trying to learn and teach, some days my frustration levels with this thing are significantly higher than others. We ended the summer in a better spot than we started it, and maybe that will carry forward. Either way, any day on the water far surpasses almost anything on this planet, and I’m happy to be there, even if sometimes I’m frustrated as hell with the boat I’m on!

I feel for ya for sure. I guess the other question Id ask myself is if you did do the 2:1 swap how long would you keep the boat after?? If you are thinking of another boat in 2 years Id just list it now in Portland, Sac, Redding etc. and then get into the boat that makes you happy. I will try to call Indmar again on price of the gearboxes. They never got back to me after I talked to them and like everyone in the marine industry, just been busy.
If you decide to swap it I will cut into the margins a bit and at least get you a break on your running gear. Id rather lock in the work for the slow season and have real work to do rather than piddly in house stuff.

this is one reason I shopped tige for another boat. I don't think you would find offers like this on other forum boards.. could be wrong but this shows the tige family....
hoping to make it back home to boise sometime in the near future to meet free and glad the experts on here are trying to keep someone happy with the brand....

It takes forever to get on plane, even empty, at higher altitudes with more than 5 people in the boat.

I’m at a complete loss, without finding a way to increase the power.

Ok ok, I found it. I knew I red something about a dealer making a statement about high elevation performance. I assumed "my dealer" was selling dealer.

It really sucks that they could have put a 2:1 in it from the start, probably without costing Tige a dollar
Hard to put it on the factory, when the ordering dealer/original buyer, dont check an option box. Even then, I don think the 2:1 was available in 2016. If it was, like I said, it would be up to the dealer ordering, to choose that engine/2:1 package, not the manufacturer.

I still think this engine has an issue. Just my 2C.

Trust me, its not selfless, but would gladly cut a guy a bit of a break during our slow time to hopefully get him to happier place with his boat. Thats all I care about. People getting to enjoy their toys. If I wasnt married Id probably be trolling the Moomba forum too, but I spend enough time here that if I was on another forum Id be single.
Before boats I worked in the ski industry, and Ive just learned that when selling leisure/fun you have to work really hard to keep people happy, or they just take their business elsewhere.

That is one of my dilemmas, I basically have to decide how long I’m keeping it, if I do the gear swap. I’m not a guy that buys and sells toys every year or 2. I generally keep stuff for awhile, which was the plan with this boat. I’m sure a 2:1 does almost zero for resale, where a supercharger would. That was part of my original quest to figure out how to supercharge this thing, I figured if I dump $5-8k, or whatever into a supercharger, I could probably get the majority of that out of it, if I want to sell it. The only people that would appreciate the 2:1 gears, would most likely be someone that has read all this, really knows their shiznit, or had some experience with the 1.5:1 and would appreciate the change. I would guess if I told 90% of guys with a surf boat what we did, they probably wouldn’t have a clue what I was talking about.

I know everyone is slammed in the summer, and I wouldn’t want to miss the summer, because my boat was usable, even if not right. I’ve kind of been putting making the decision off, until winter, which is now approaching, and I guess eventually will force the decision.

I also have to convince the lady how much we need this, which 10mph is plenty to drink White Claws and get sunshine, so that’s entirely another hurdle. Similar to me reading how you now have 3 dogs......

Gotcha, yeah, that’s just the closest dealer to me. Still 2 hours away, and good enough, but not a ton of help, if there is help to be had.

As far as I know it wasn’t available in 16, and you’re right, if it was an option and wasn’t chosen, that is 100% on me for buying a boat that the original dealer optioned wrong for me. My argument is that was the standard for 16, which changed to the standard for 17, which was 2:1, with my line of think being Tige realized they screwed up putting a 1.5 in these heavy bia’s, and switched to a 2:1. I think Tige either knew that the 1.5:1 was just “good enough to get by”, let Indmar dictate what should be in there, or they didn’t bother testing a boat of this supposed caliber enough. If you’re going to sell one of the nicest boats on the market, I think all your I’s should be dotted, and T’s crossed, as far as quality and performance. I have other stuff I could nit pick about my boat, but that’s all it would be. Either way I think the 1.5:1 was a screw up, and that’s purely from my experience, maybe I’m wrong. But I think that’s the one place Tige dropped the ball. I don’t have a problem with anything else they’ve done.

I wish there was a problem with my engine, that would be an easy fix. I hope someone finds a problem with my engine. Supposedly they’ve looked, and supposedly there isn’t. I have no real way of finding myself. Unfortunately the days of throwing a timing light on, and changing jets is long gone, so I’m pretty well stuck with what I’m told from the guy with the computer.
