Now wait a second! How does anyone know who that is?! I blacked out his face!

I don’t even remember who it is?!

We had a small crew this past Saturday so we decided to load it up with water weight for a bit of testing. We were at Willard Bay which is about 4200'. I'll guess and say we had about 700 pounds of people weight, 3000ish in stock, 700ish in PNP, and probably 1700 on the floor. So around 6100 in total weight. The first run we did to 12mph was SLOW! At a full throttle acceleration it took probably 45 seconds to reach speed. This was with near glass water...no wind. I could really hear the engine working hard to keep the speed, but the RPM's stayed at 3900-4000 the whole time. I was happy with that. Once to speed I played around with the taps and surf setting for a bit. I couldn't get anything very impressive. In fact it was pretty disappointing. We got to the end of the lake and stopped. I then placed all three kids up front, then my wife and I were on the surfside. With the three kids up front it jumped right up to speed. I was amazed at the difference that amount of weight made on the acceleration of the boat. I didn't think to check the RPM's again, but the engine was noticeably working easier. Get the 2:1 transmission and don't look back.

Now about that wave. What gives? I was kind of expecting a monster but didn't get it. We emptied the rear most bag on the floor and the wave didn't change at all. On a previous trip we used one of these bags all the way towards the back seat. I think the wave was better that day. In both cases, the wave starts out very nice but then develops a huge curl and crashes. You can see how the wave is very long, but the curl ends up taking it all away. I emptied the rear, off side PNP about 10 percent at a time and tried just about every variation of the surf and taps plates with each bag adjustment with the above picture being pretty typical of all the results.
As is, the push is great. No shortage there. I feel like if I had a longer face, I could generate more speed to give me a better chance at getting some air.

Just my thoughts not worth 2 cense. By the prop wash it looks like you could drive with a little more negative arch. In my experience it will help stand the curl up and support its self. Negative arch (to me) is away from the surfer. positive arch (to me) toward the surfer. It would be how i would have to correct it. I am sure you could adjust something to get the same result. What that is i have no clue.

Monday AM update, that 15”x11” prop made a world of difference. It isn’t 100% there, but much closer. Great hanging and riding with you guys Nickypoo!!

Yesterday with a crew as high as 5, We had a 3, and Nick had his wife and buddy back and forth, we actually ran 100% ballast, +500 lead. The day before we had a bigger crew, 9 and 10, and we couldn’t quite run full, but could run like 80%, which is pushing double what we could before, at like 40%.. so it did make a far bigger difference than I would have guessed.. I think the 2:1 is probably the real solution to get the boat to do what is is sold to do, but I also saved some of my remaining hair being pulled out from frustration. I think that prop is a solid band aid for saving the rest of this summer, at least.

Unstuck Have you tried slowing down to 10.8-11.2??

That’s pretty dang close to our identical situation, probably as close as 2 guys, 500 miles apart can get. We were probably 4500 in crew and ballast. Probably within about 100’ of elevation.

I’ve been going back and forth all summer about whether slamming the front is more important to hit plane, or if the extra weight was slowing us down. Bsreid convinced me that having the extra weight up there is more important, so we ran it that way all weekend. I do still have a front bag leaking, so not sure what I’m losing there, but both front bags full and 200 lead in the very front storage.

I’m no expert in setting up a wave, we rode behind a late 90’s Sanger and an early 2000’s centurion, with people crammed on swim decks and the back of the boat, for most of our “careers”.. and you just rode whatever the wave was.. my buddy got a g23 last year, which as our first experience of pushing buttons to set the wave up. Nick had me making some changes, and giving me a few pointers on how it should look, yesterday.. I’ve always kinda just left it at get it as big as I can, and try to get as much white of the top as I can. That pretty close to my expertise.

We definitely had it better at the end of the session. It liked more input on the taps3 for sure. The more we got it listing, the better it got. Question for the experts though. Just shits and giggles, we ran it up to 14mph while I was surfing and as soon as we hit 14, everything seemed to shut down. Not the motor but the taps3 just seemed to retract? Is that normal?

Had a great time hanging out with you guys, Zack. We will for sure be hooking up more. One thing though. FAE.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Good to hear. That will at least get you through the summer, and if you can find a wave you're happy with you may just be done all together.

We normally sure between 11.2 and 11.5. I picked 12mph for my test just because. I have not tried making a wave under 11mph though. That seems opposite of what I've been hearing to do.

I think getting those bags completely sealed is going to be another piece of the puzzle. Even if the leaks are smallish, they are still putting some water in the bilge and I can’t get the timers set accurately.. both are going to continue to mess with us, at least somewhat.. for some reason, lately, I can’t get as much lean as I was getting earlier in the season.. I probably need to make sure those actuators are working 100%, I know we have them working some because we can transfer the wave, but maybe they aren’t fully deploying.. either way, maybe we get a cleaner wave by emptying more than I think, on the off side.. or maybe I’ll grab some more lead for the rider side.. I do agree though, the 1% lean we were getting yesterday isn’t enough..

And I’ll put the FAE on the list, for you guys!! But it’s down there a few spots!! Found out how bad we need more lights, for night cruises, on Friday night, with all that smoke.. transom lights and a light bar on the tower will be coming soon!

It isn’t 100% but it is much improved. I went out solo, on glass, at 6am on Saturday, and 33mph was tacked out.. I’d like to see closer to 40, one way, or another, plus I’d like to be able to add some more weight, one way, or another.. I think the 2:1 is the fix.. I just have to decide if I can justify the expense, for what I want.. if not, it may mean selling this boat, and getting everything that I know I want, or dumping whatever the number is, probably $15k into this one, and I’ll have a boat I love for the next whatever, probably 5-8 years...

We normally ride 11.5-12mph... I know some people build their waves a little slower, and maybe it’s because I’m a little bigger and heavier, but 12 just feels a lot more solid to me...

Taps 3 will shutdown right around that speed.

I knew I had heard it would shut down, but didn’t know the speed.. Good news it we got the surf speed up to 14mph, bad news is Nickypoo got dumped when his wave turned to wash at 14mph..

It looks like you are definitely getting some list there though. I dont get take out the expensive ones so Jason or others would probably be of more help getting that face longer.
