    Kids wakesurf board

I promised my son once he tried to get up on his own I would get him his own surf board...what are you guys using for kiddos?

He is 5 years old 50+ lbs and is trying to get up on one of mine but its obviously too big for him to handle.

Lastly if anyone has a used kiddo board they want to unload and can get shipped to Ohio before Saturday I'm in the market!

I recently got a CWB Dash 44" for my son who is 53lbs. Nice board for less than $200 shipped. Have only tried once and he wasn't able to get up. He's still content to just ride on his belly or knees. However, we surfed 2 up on a paddleboard yesterday which he really liked and it seemed like a great learning tool for him to get the feel of balancing and steering the board.

Exile makes a grom board - same market as the scamp. Personally I think built way better though...

They have 3 different sizes as well.

We started out on a scamp that worked great. It is more of a skimboard and I think it might be too loose, but we didn't know any different at the time. I kept wanting to get larger fins for it but never did. My kids are 70-100 pounds and now use a Chaos board made for them. It is a much nicer board.

I was talking to someone who said they got their kids up surfing by using a wakeboard. It worked great for them because they didn’t have to struggle with the board because they have bindings and they are so light that the wakeboard will actually surf.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

We are doing that with my 6 year old. He has almost figured out how to get up on the wakeboard. Another trip or two. He is also doing tube starts on a surfboard. Hopefully soon he will put the two together and be surfing real soon.

My 8 year old daughter weighs 58 lbs. and surfs that CWB Dash board ropeless very well. My only complaint is that it seems VERY easy for her to submerge the nose on it - especially given how small she is. She's ridden the Liquid Force Grom as well and said it felt about the same. Hasn't tried any of the others yet.

We did let her surf on her wakeboard at age 7 so the wave didn't seem so scary - I think that helped. She couldn't go ropeless on it, but did get a lot of slack riding it. For a 5 year old, that might be a better start...

Another vote for a Phase 5 Scamp.
                  Be excellent to one another.

Never thought to use a wakeboard as a surf board. He is 5 (will be 6 in Nov)....think that will help him learn faster? I'm all ears on techniques to teach a young kiddo!

If they are having trouble getting up try doing a tube start. It will give them a break and allow them to start getting the feel for riding the board. I think I they need to feel that so they don’t get discouraged and give up altogether.

For my kids we bought them a ronix kids board. Been great so far!

Oh tube start is a great idea. I’m going to give that a shot next time. Thanks for the tip.

How old are your kids. Mine got up at a young age by themselves However to get them up I would stand on the swim deck and pull them by hand a bunch of times so they get the feeling of digging in the heels and also standing up right away. I think this is a crucial thing to get them started. And then when driving turn towards the side they surf on so they stay away from the mountain.

I have done the same teaching method (just pulling them by hand) but my 7 year old nephew just dosen't seam to get it. second season trying. To the point I get frustrated. I might try the tube start for him and just for my own sake. LOL
