    impeller

Got a call from my son who is on the lake with the family. Lost the impeller on 2005 marine power 5.7l 340 hp engine. I look at the web and after some searching it appears to be a Johnson 812 1B However I also see it can be a Jabsco. Went and got the Johnson. Called Tige in Texas to be sure to be sure I have the correct one and they have no clue which impeller. I was told that All they do is put the engines in the boat. Asked if they had boat service and was told all they do is build boats. Got referred to Marine Power. Gave them a call. All they do is give me a Marine power part number and cannot tell me the supplier or part number for the impeller based on their own internal part number. You buy engines, you provide engines and no one has a clue about parts? Call a Tige dealer. Im provided a Jabsco part number. Asked about the Johnson impeller I purchased and am informed that if I put it in boat it will overheat even though it fits. No one in town has Jabsco. Called west Marine in Lake Havasu, and went to pick one up. Round trip about 3 hrs. Get back to Lake, Jabsco gets installed and on it is the Johnson number 812 1B on the metal insert the same one I got several hours earlier. So Marine Power has no clue, Tige has no clue, Dealer provides questionable information. This is for a simple impeller! All I can say is WOW! There is spare on the boat now!

So is it a Jabsco or Johnson pump? Itll be stamped or molded on the actual pump. It may also be stamped into the impellor cover plate. I have an 07’ 22VE with the same engine as you. Mine is a Johnson pump

Some of the Marine Power engines have the Jabsco but most had the Johnson. Have to see what is stamped on the cover plate.

        Lee is correct as always.

Fun fact the Johnson 812B is the impeller for a bunch of Volvo I/Os and every Indmar going back a ways in all makes(Malibu, MC, Tige, Moomba, Supra) and in the Raptors, but if you call Volvo with a Johnson part number they will try to sell you their part with a Volvo partner number in a blue box.
Now you know and can change impellers regularly (yearly is cheap insurance). Sorry you had to learn the hard way. Did you provide a hull number to Tige or an engine serial number to Marine Power?? When was the last impeller service??
Sorry to be confrontational but these are people that got called on the busiest days of the season to try and help and you aren't happy with the result. At least you apparently talked to someone that tried to help vs getting a voicemail or talking to someone in another country.

Hopefully all the stray pieces got retrieved. Kind of nuts you've been a TO forum member for 13 years and don't know what impeller you need...

I'm off my soapbox now. SORRY for being a ****, but I know some of the people you are flaming in a forum of public opinion, and I think they did their best to armchair quarterback your problem, unless other facts come to the table.

I am very sorry and apologize for not remembering the part number on the impeller. When one gets to my age memory is not as good as when one is much younger. If this makes me nuts I apologize. The impeller was changed many times on this boat. The pulled impeller looked very good. Also there were absolutely no stray pieces to retrieve. The impeller spun a hub. You could put needle nose pliers into the hole and spin the rubber portion.

This is the reason I carry a spare at all times, my first day on the lake when I bought my current boat the same thing happened.... Dealer had completed service before I took delivery and the brand new impeller spun on the hub. I was very disappointed since I had already tested the boat on the water and there were no issues.
I change my impeller every year with the spare from the glovebox and order a new one to replace the spare in the glove box. I am always over prepared when I go to the lake because we are an hour down a winding mountain road that is about 33% dirt road, so there are no quick trips for parts or supplies to make repairs.
