    2018 r22 NEED HELP ASAP!!!

So I just bought my first Tige after my wife and I browsed and looked for about two months. We absolutely fell in love with the look and performance of Tige and was just looking for the best deal. This is where things went bad, we just got home about 2 hours ago with our boat from a four hour drive down and a four hour drive back, was so excited to get the boat out tomorrow. The bad news is we just found out that the boat has been sunk before, we went through a dealership that was basically being the “broker of the boat”. My wife and I know hardly anything about boats, however I did ask the dealer a couple of times has anything ever been wrong with the boat or anything messed up to which he replied no. The dealer was bragging about how much money the guy had that owned the boat and that he was upgrading to a new boat for a third time this year, so just out of curiosity when we got him I looked the guys name up and that’s where we discovered the boat had been sunk before, just last month. At this point I’m sick to my stomach, somewhere in the middle of puking and flipping my crap for being duped like this. I am a former United States Marine Corps veteran and one of the most down to earth guys in the world, but I have literally gotten screwed. I also did research on this boat store and they had great reviews. At this point I don’t know what to do, does anyone have any suggestions or help that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Is there any evidence on your boat that it has been sunk? That would be a good starter for talking to the dealer.

i presume you test drove the boat? id just make sure everything is well dried out. i dont think its the end of the world if everything on the boat works. i can see how its annoying.

Yes we have picture and video evidence that we got off of the previous owners Facebook page. Screenshotted the comments where he talked about it sinking and they made a video as water was filling up and we recorded that as well.

We didn’t test drive it, just ran it on a hose. Everything looked perfect and the engine sounded amazing. Was such a nice shop and people we thought no need to take it on the water. We took our two puppies with us so kind of made it hard. In the comments on Facebook it said they hit a log and in the middle of the lake and started taking on water. When I called the dealer he tried to play dumb until I told him I had everidence and quit bullshitting me. He said that there was a small scratch and that all he knew is the ballast broke and started taking in water. Which I could tel he was lying. I don’t know what to do.

No... is there any evidence on your boat right now. Things can be replaced and fixed... Yes they should admit to it but if fixed properly it’s no big deal.

Honestly haven’t had a chance to look yet, came home dropped the boat off and went to play poker at my friends and we found out about it on the way there and haven’t been home yet. I said the same thing to my wife and she’s just worried about any future problems that may come from it. I mean I know it punctured the hull and that was fixed and I seen water coming in but I don’t know what’s been fixed/replaced or what future problems if any could come from this.

are you 110% certain the dealer would have known about the sinking and log accident? You said you found out about it on facebook by searching the previous owner name (smart by the way), maybe the owner took it somewhere else to get fixed. This way he'd get more for his trade if the dealer didn't know about the accident. Either way I'd call the owner of the shop (not the manger or sales manager but the owner) and explain, wouldn't throw out comments like "you lied" just yet unless your 110% certain and see how understanding the owner is. Can't speak to any of the mechanical or electrical issues of sinking but yelling and screaming and accusing and demanding won't get you far so take the emotion out of it and see what the owner has to say and then decide what your next move is. Good luck!

Did you "purchase" from the private party boat owner, or did the dealer own the boat and trade and was technically purchased from the dealer? In either case, anything the state requires the owner/seller to disclose, would likely be in a written form, not verbal. So what the dealer stated, or didnt state, verbally, may not matter. May not be the moral thing though, but likely not against any state laws.

Did the dealer/broker verbally state the condition or was there a written damage disclosure signed, that did not indicate level of possible damage?

Best bet is to research the state laws of the state in which the transaction took place. Boat sales are not as strict as car and home sales. Most states do no issue salvaged titles for boats, nor a damage disclosure like what would accompany car sale. An underwater strike, even claimed on insurance, will not likely come up on a title search, like a wreck repair on a car. These kind of repairs are like a minor wreck for a car.

How sunk was sunk? Find out who did the repair and ask for an itemized repair. Even suggest upfront that they redact customer info and the likes. You are only interested in the scope of the damage and repair.

                  Sorry to hear about this.

Was there any evidence on the boat's history report? I would have to imagine there being some type of insurance claim on a problem like that....my other concern with it being a 2018 is if Tige got a wif of this is the 5 year warranty still valid on a sunk boat? I would comb thru the sales ad and look for verbiage from the seller claiming no accident, etc. I mean I get that "anything can be fixed" but unless you got this boat for a STEAL of a price, I personally would want a 2018 that is darn near new so I get your frustration. Have you asked the dealer if you can return the boat? Are they a Tige dealer? Maybe you can work something out to purchase an unsunk boat from them if they genuinely didn't know about the issue but want to make a customer happy?

Edit: Chp answered my first question...didn't know that it was so lax on the insurance claims on boats

Warranty would be voided if sunk and if it was sold third party the warranty would be void. Has to be from a Tige dealership.

email the hull ID number to justin@tige.com so some research can be started.

call the dealer asap and tell him you want to return it - any reputable dealership will work with you. I don't know where you are from but in Massachusetts there are lemon laws on the books for cars, doubtful boats have the same thing BUT - a phone call costs nothing - start there and see where it goes, and start with the dealer owner, I have always found a good owner will do the right thing to protect his/her reputation.

                        Let us know what happens

So where do I begin. The conversation last night ended with him saying if you don’t want the big then just bring it back, and my reply was if I decide I don’t want the boat I won’t be taking it anywhere, you will be coming to pick it up. As I stated last night the wife and I were playing poker at a buddies and didn’t get home until 3AM. So I woke up to 5 missed calls 4 of which were from the dealer and 2 of which were from previous owner of the boat that I got the screenshots on his Facebook. In which he left me about a four minute message and giving me more info. This is a super longer story and pretty crazy so trying to leave out all of the details but basically in his message he thought that after we bought it we took it to the Tige dealership from where we bought it and the guy that sold him the boat told us everything that had happened. Like I said he thought that’s how we found out but it wasn’t, so he did proceed to say the guys name and dealership name in the voicemail (lol). So my next call was to the guy mentioned in the voicemail. This is where it’s gets pretty interesting, my wife and I talk to him for 15-20 mins where he tells us exactly what happened and what all needed to be fixed on the boat. Super super nice and helpful about all, told me if it was fixed right then I got a hell of a deal on the boat but be sure to take it to our local tige dealer. Within 5 mins of getting off the phone with him the big Dudley truck from the dealership we bought the boat was coming across the hill to my house. (3 1/2-4) hours away. He gets out of the truck said he’s there to get the boat and here is your check for the deposit. (Forgot to mention above that the good dealer I talked to at tige was checking into if anything illegal was done for the dealership not disclosing if they knew about damages.) So we tell him we didn’t decide on what we are doing yet and he tries to get all pissy and say I said to come and get the boat last night, which I didn’t, I said if we decide we don’t want it your coming to get it. Anyway, luckily my wife was there because I am a very calm guy but when that certain nerve gets struck I see Red and that’s about where it was at. So anyway he starts bashing the other dealer saying he’s mad because he lost the owner of that I purchased the boat from because he switched to them (centurion) at which I laughed and said I didn’t know anything about that guy until I heard the voicemail when I woke up and you could tell he wanted to slap hisself. Anyway where we are now is he did show me all of the before and after pictures and the insurance claim done on the boat through State Farm and told me everything they fixed and replaced. I told him we are getting the bot inspected at a tige dealer and we will go from there basically. Every part of me wants to give tha boat back but we got such a great deal that if everything was fixed properly it’s hard to. So anywhere the boat is at the tige dealership now, we told them the story and like all 10 people at the store came out and we all got a good laugh and that’s basiclaly where we are at. The boat did not fully sink and it wasn’t totaled, basically the hull was damaged and repaired and patched but the water Came from the ballast tube coming off and water running in on the bottom and the owner was to stupid to reach down and turn on the cut off valve. So about 1/4 to 2/4 of the motor was under water and they took it straight to shore and got it on a trailer and out of there. $8,300 insurance claim cost to fix, the only thing the tige dealership found so far was a little water in the transmission fluid, it was a little milky. So they are going to do a better inspecation and get it out on the water over the next 2-3 days. That’s where we are at now basically. Pretty wild day, I’m not going back and proofreading this so any grammar or English errors then I do apologize. Thanks for everyone’s help so far, and to answer another question we did but the boat from GA and we live in TN. In GA if there are any insurance claims done on a boat and any dealer sales it then it does have to be disclosed. The place we bought the boat from did the work and we bought it from them, not the owner so by law they were suppose to tell us the information but did not.

                              2/4 underwater is concerning.
