Alex Laughlin to Banner Tige Boats at Charlotte NHRA
I'm always a bit intrigued by sponsorships like this, that to me don't make any sense. I don't follow drag racing and don't know who this guy is, but what's the thought process here? If he wins, will it help Tige sell more boats? I could totally understand Good Year putting their name all over the car because if he wins with their tires, more racers will want to by them.
Now this may be too stereotypical, but if a pontoon company did it, that would make sense.
I’m not sure the sponsoring effort must always be tied to the sport. In fact, I think you could see examples of it everywhere including NASCAR, MLS and the English Premier League, the PGA, etc., etc., etc. I’m my opinion, it often has nothing to do with the person/team, but more to do with getting the name/brand recognition. I’m pretty sure Tony Stewart wasn’t thinking of the correlation when he had Home Depot plastered all over his car for years. The EPL has teams with sponsors in technology, the PGA with sponsors in investment companies. I see your thought process, but it definitely doesn’t seem to matter to MANY organizations who are paying to sponsor a league, team, or person.
