RZ4 winter projects complete! prop/ballast/flooring/custom swim deck

What a winter! It sure dragged on but I completed a few things this winter and am SOOOOO happy with the results. Changed props to an ACME 1615 for torque, installed two 12' subs and an amp, upgraded rear ballast to Wakemakers' new 880lb plug n play rear bags, made a custom swim deck, and designed and had some custom flooring made up and installed.

Prop: I'd post a pic but a prop is a prop.

Subs. I had two Phoenix Gold 12"s laying around so I figured I should put them to use. I ordered up an amp and had a local car stereo place build me a custom enclosure. We used the garbage can area and created a bandpass enclosure in there that ports out below the drivers' seat. They also completely tuned the rest of my stereo while it was there. It WAILS!!! :

Rear ballast. I bought WakeMakers 880lb plugnplay rear bags and am EXTREMELY happy with the product. They fit right in place and go right up to the starboard side underseat cooler and just slightly into the uderseat storage area on port side. Still lots of room to store my top in there. These things fill the rear lockers completely up, it's a perfect fit. Only thing is the drain and vent lines leak a bit due to the water weight pushing it out so I'll be installing some small ball valves on those lines to keep 'em full all day. No biggie and not the fault of the bags it's just that the holes on the boat are lower than the bags. here they are empty:

Here's a shot of where they enter the port side underseat storage. They really don't take any space at all but fill the void between the rear locker and there:

I also replaced the cheap PVC check valves with some brass HD valves after one of the front ones cracked over winter. They were like $15cad eech:

Swim deck. I got REALLY tired of surfing in the white-wash the factory RZ-series deck produces with the big lip underneath the damn thing so I decided to build my own. I decided to do something a little different than the typical cut and reshape of wood/fiberglass builds I'd seen. I built mine from 3/8" plate steel, had it powdercoated, and then had new decking installed after it was done. It's narrower, shorter, and WAY thinner than the factory deck and other than a small vortex at times it rarely has an impact on my wave at all. Before anyone says woah woah woah that'll never stay on, it's only 80lbs heavier than before. I'm more than confident in the deck not being too heavy, yet gives me a few lbs more ballast without taking up any room on board. Oh, and it looks sick!!! :

Flooring. I had some custom decking made up and got rid of the factory removable carpet. I'd originally just gone in for new decking for the new swim grid but the shop owner upsold me on a whole package. Man am I ever glad he did, I looks AWESOME! Really brings the boat up to a 2018 look. I had him do a pattern similar to a design I'd seen on the Roswell boat a few years back, had it angled 45* to the boat length, and threw in a Tige Europe logo on the cabin floor and the swim grid. I love it and am super happy with the UltraDeck product:

If you read this far then thanks for checking out my boat mods. I love them and have been riding since April. Hope you all have a great boating season and if you're around the BC interior at all gimme a holler, I've always got more room on my boat!

(EDIT: I have no idea why the pics are turning but oh well, deal with it lol!)

The wave my boat now makes is unreal and I couldn't have asked for anything better. It was alot of money but SO worth it with the results I've been getting. I love it when my wave crosses one of the bigger more modern full surf package boats' waves and mine is smoother, taller, and longer than theirs. Gives me a big smile every time lol! here's an idea of what it's putting out:

Thanks man, I'm super stoked how everything turned out. So happy. Hopefully next year all I'll do is winterize it lol.

I'll have to look in to the Ultradeck. Been wanting to do some pieces for my boat as well and knowing it's somewhat local that dealing with the others in the US is appealing.

Nice upgrades man! The swim deck came out great! I wonder what the weight difference would be with a 1” hdpe slab of the same size. I know it’s not cheap. What does a sheet of 3/8” steel cost that size cost?

RE: sideways pics-It took me forever to figure out why the pics turn sideways like that. I’m guessing you’re using a smartphone camera. If so, take the pics you’re gonna post here in landscape mode (phone sideways)
I haven’t had one turn since doing that.
            Cheers

That looks incredible. I love the swim deck innovation. That's a great way to add ballast right where you want it.

Great mods for sure. Love the "step here" on the gunnel pad. Wave is looking dialed too. Curious about how you have the boat setup?? Full rears and shaper?? Shaper and a little offside weight pumped out??

Great job, looks awesome! Did you have the Ultradeck installed or did they supply only? Just wondering how difficult it is to do as we are on the Island and were wondering if we should do our 22ve ourselves or make a trip (it looks like Vernon area?). Really nice job!

HDPE would've been lighter and WAY more expensive (neither of which did I want). I did ALOT or price shopping on different approaches before committing to steel. I looked at HDPE, aluminum, new wood/fiberglass, cut & reshape existing deck, etc., and in the end was on the cheaper end to go the steel route which is what I wanted to do in the first place so it worked out nicely.
I don't take pics with forums in mind, just for whatever makes the best pic so I guess I'm screwed there lol. Oh well, y'all will just have to suffer my pics haha.

Thanks man, appreciate it. That's exactly what I was thinking about the ballast... 80 lbs off the back is probably like 150 or more sitting on the floor in the cabin due to the leveraging effect.

Haha yeah, I had him throw that on there 'cause I get sick of people stepping all over my gunwhales!

I usually ride with 3-4 people and setup is like this: SuckGate on, both front bags full, rear hard tanks and bags full, one of the factory rear bags (350lbs) centered on the bow seat right at the front, and a 400lb FatSac on the rear bench, off set to the surf side for a slight list (a few degrees), and all passengers to surf side. It's heavy but man oh man does she throw a nice wave! I'm 260lbs and the factory Surf+XL system just didn't give me enough push and wore myself out really fast just trying to stay out there. Now I can stay in the pocket with little to no effort for as long as I want.

I had the UltraDeck installed by the dealer in Vernon, Andrew at Distinctive Upholstery. His customer service could use some attention but did an absolute bang-up job. As you can tell I'm super stoked with his product and the difference it made to my boat. He also made some repairs and mods to my cover and I was happy with that too.

Shoot me a PM if you head up to have him do your boat, I'd be happy to bring you out for a surf while your boat's in the shop!

Thanks for the info. I'm a little heavier than you and have only really enjoyed that 5'1" Primo on a couple of dialed in waves. Hasn't had the speed on a few other boats. I knew when I could see that wave pushing you on that board that you've got it dialed in
