    Lake Shelbyville, IL

I've seen a few posts in the past about Lake Shelbyville in Central Illinois in the past, but wasn't able to find a few answers I was looking for. We are going to be camping at Lithia Springs campground and keeping our Z1 at the marina 8/1 - 8/5.

Any areas of the lake to avoid or must do things in the area?

Is the orange flag rule while towing a skier/ boarder required up at all times, or only when the rider falls? And for those who have flag laws, do you mount on the tower or with a suction cup on the glass around the helm?

When asking the person from Lithia about any specific rules for the lake, only thing she mentioned was that no more than five boats can be tied up together.

    Thanks in advance!

@trace is a good resource and it’s his birthday today!

You are staying in one of the best locations on the lake IMHO.

There is a rafting rule that requires a permit over 5 boats.

Illinois does have a flag rule now. Don’t know the specs, we always leave ours up. There are some shallow spots and the lake level does vary. Great Lake, host a big event there every year. Good amount of food choices in town too. .

Thank you, will reach out to see.

Is the event a TO meetup or something else?

The lake was really low, but has now come up to normal pool for the summer. ACE has said will try to keep it at 600 for the season, which is a really good depth. Must have an orange flag up at all times while doing watersports. Rule about flag states, must be seen above highest point on boat near helm, but I don't mount mine up that high and I don't know anyone who has gotten any grief about it. Not really any sneaky places to avoid on the southern end of the lake with the water up. Once you get above the Eagle Creek resort you might want a map especially around 5 mile cove and Findlay marina. There are some underwater shelfs that could be problematic depending on the water level. If you run up in 3 mile cove (Wolf Creek ramp) there is a shallow shoal right at the first dog leg on the east/south side to watch for, the rest of 3 mile cove just watch your depth gauge everything else tapers slowly, be cautious about running between the island and the bank, there is a channel right in the middle, but it shallows out to either side of center. Anything above Findlay, ask somebody else, I rarely go above Eagle Creek since we have a lift in the Lithia Marina.

Oh and fyi, Lithia marina only has 87 octane fuel on the gas dock. So plan accordingly.

Thank you for all the information. We have a overnight rental slip at Lithia while we are there, which marina do you get fuel at on the water?

If you're there that weekend, we will have to meet up.
