does anybody have any set ups for a 2006 22ve? I tried to weigh both corners evenly but the wave was washed out like crazy. Ended up weighing the surf corner and putting the gate on the other side, but honestly I think the listed wave without the suck gate was better. Its a little confusing because it seems like everybody is liking the suck gate wave better than listing, so im wondering if i'm doing something wrong.

Go Surf Assist is an aftermarket version of this that most people say they really like.

I have 2014 Z3 with the vx and i think the good brackets (pic attached). i have some success with the gate but not great (also attached pic of my gate). I've tried even weight, listing some, different speeds, etc. and can't seem to find the magic setup. Couple questions:
1) Position of gate: Do you want it completely below the water line or where the top edge is just at the water line? The lines on my hull pretty much allows for two locations - high or low no in between.
2) Do you seen anything wrong with my gate design?
3) Do i need more weight? i have the pro ballast which as far as i can tell is just the bags in the rear lockers - nothing below the floor. We almost always have 6-8 people in the boat.
Thanks for any help. If there are any z3's running at lake of the ozarks, table rock, bull shoals using a gate I'd love to meet up and compare setups.

Your gate design is almost the same as mine. It might be a touch large, but it should still work. Mount it along the sweeping contour along the side of the boat. It ends up pointing a bit down.
I think your issue is likely ballast. If you just have the Pro ballast, you are running quite light. Try getting a lot of people on the boat, or borrow a fat sac for the floor. You will find that makes a big difference (so long as you have enough propeller to push it)
Your Vx brackets are Gen 2 and are good.

I am at TableRock right now. I could not get my rear driver side sack to fill so I never worried about using my suck gate. Well we ended up getting the sack to fill so we ran pro stock Ballast in the boat full in the front in full in the back. Added the surf gate now and this was the result. We were at 10.6 mph on TT and Taps was at 4. I will try to get pics and vid up on next post.Last edited by MJO21; 07-05-2018, 03:18 AM.

Bigger gate is not necessarily better, will just cost you more in fuel cause that much more resistance against water (been quite a few tests that prove a larger gate does not work better than small gate and usually the opposite is true, that smaller is better)....look at the Mission gate, its pretty small actually. Also, look at the Nautique NSS system, that is really small tabs that protrude out.
I use a Nauticurl suck gate, I like the slight curve to the rear, I think it makes things a little more economical since water flows a bit better but still plenty of resistance to create the "divergence" needed to create the wave. So you may wanna change the angle slightly too if you are gonna cut down your cutting board a bit.
Also, in my experience, you do not want the gate too low below water line or you lose push, I like to run level with water or even a little above. When above the water, it will throw a rooster tail of water up in the air, but good wave. I have 2 spots I can place it too due to step in hull....with the amount of weight I run, 1 is slightly low and the other is slightly high. The high position seems to give wave a little better shape and push AND the rpm on my boat is little lower. (listing boat = 3200rpm, high position with suck gate = 3400rpm and the lower position = 3600rpm....so says a lot about the water resistance and the effect it has on how hard the engine works). That said, all boats are different so try some different things, this is just what works for me so may be a good starting point for you to try.

Thanks @TigeFamily! Great info. I'm going to try and cut down the size and maybe add some weight. I can adjust the angle pretty easily too. Has anyone experimented taking the vx off? It seems I read a thread on it awhile back but not sure.
Sorry for all the questions. I let my brother and his family take my boat all week so I'm just dreaming of surfing!

Hey guys just jump in on this. Since I was on my buddy’s axis I thought I would try something diff with my suckgate and make it like a surfgate. The auctions cups never budged. It did not spray. I made it a hair higher than the swim deck. Only angled out maybe 30 deg. Was very pleased with result. I ran all factory tanks full. Mla bag full 1250lbs plus the starboard side 700 lbs roughly. The wave was not as steep but way longer at a slower speed of 11 vs I normally surf 11.4-11.6. And the wave was way wider. Go outside the boat farther. Hope this helps. It’s not pretty but it’s just for trial right now. Also the photos are from almost sitting in the observer seat.

Cool design. I tried a number of variations of that setup (mounted to the Vx instead of the suction cup) but it did not work with the Z1 hull at all. The spray would leap out over the platform and mess up the wave. I must have tried 3 or 4 variations before giving up. Good on you for experimenting!
