    Suck Gate

    Well made my first attempt at a suck gate. Used a 3/4 inch thick piece of plastic cutting board from a butcher plant. secured it to the suction cups and now just have to try it out. I'm not sure if this angle is steep enough? any input would help. The Face is 11 inches at the bottom and narrows to about 9 at the top.

    cutting board=free
    suction cup =8.99
    hardware =2.50

    Not bad for 11.49

    That will work fine, so long as it stays attached. The plastic ones can be difficult sometimes. Otherwise there's really no wrong way to do it. They almost always work. Mine is about the same size with a slightly steeper angle.

      I have something very similar as well. I started with the "red" harbor freight suction cup and found it kept falling off. You might want to upgrade to something like this one:https://smile.amazon.com/COSMOS-Alum...um+suction+cup

        Mine also is steeper. I think 75 degrees is what I cut mine at. Our plate sizes are about identical. I was happy at the results.

          Yea, it's mostly about the suction cups. The plate angle and exact size matter less than it staying on boat. I think ur size and angle will be fine...see how the cups do. (Bigger plate size is not better, in many cases I have seen smaller actually work better).

          Also, don't "bury" in water or wave will be smaller or washy. You want it about level with water or even an inch or 2 out of water for cleanest/biggest wave.

            I've read that guys have a hard time with suction cups falling off due to the curvature of the boat so the one I got one with cups move that independently of each other so they should stick to anything (I hope) I'm going to try it out if it holds and does well then Yay!!!! If not I will switch to the shorter handled ones. This is the one I purchased, but I got it on sale at the store for 8.99 so here to hoping!!!!

                I was wondering if the plastic would hold. I guess Ill order one now for when this one fails lol. this one is fairly long so i should be able to cut it down to fit the shorter metal ones i think

                  I didn't have luck with the plastic ones. I got this one here in Canada:
                  https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

                  It has worked extremely well. The insides will rust over time, so you can treat them with some anti-rust spray if you really want to.

                    I got this one. It's plastic and it pivots slightly until you make a mount. Has only fallen off once but that was more to an in proper seal to the boat. It's also slightly larger than the others.

                      thats the same one I got i was going to leave to bolts a little bit loose that connect the mounts to the handle so that it can still pivot.

                        Make sure you clean the boat where you’re gonna attach it to real well. It won’t stick well to freshly waxed surface or a dirty surface.

                          I have an aluminum handle version I made. It will stick to a freshly waxed and buffed surface without any issues. My older plastic handle version would not stick very well.
