Well I talked to the previous owner last night and he said he had similar issues with the boat and it was the distributor cap. I have had problems with a previous boat but the boat would run just not good so I didn’t even think to look at it. Went to parts store this morning and got a new cap and rotor button. When I pulled the old cap off I became a believer. I have never seen such a mess under a dist cap like that. Swapped them out and reset power and it fired right up. Only let it run for a few seconds since it was t hooked up to water but it didn’t die out! Going to put it in water after work for a real test! Fingers crossed !

Thanks for the reply. The butterfly valve doesn’t move when the throttle is engaged and I turn the key over.
I would recommend giving Eddie a call over at Marine Power for guidance, he is happy to point you in the right direction when these issues occur.

        Yay!

Don't get me started on the factory ignition components, they are absolute junk.

Well it ran like a champ! I really appreciate all the helpful information I received on here. I never thought about the crazy dist cap because of the particular problems but I guess a bad dist cap can cause all kinds of issues. Maybe this wil help someone in the future.

Great news! I appreciate your commitment to keep working at it. Most important thing is posting the resolution to the problem. There are too many forum threads across the web where the OP just disappears and nobody ever knows the solution. Happy boating!!
