You can also just turn ignition one click to the right without firing and hours will display accurately.

We timed them twice, yesterday and got 2 different results, by close to 2 minutes.. I’m assuming we didn’t get them all the way empty the previous weekend, and that threw our first timer off. Hoping that’s the case, at least.. thanks for any help!!
I spoke with the maintenance supervisor about the differential fill times. He recommended looking at the overflow hose on the bags when we start filling. The bags and onboard ballast need to vent to fill. If something is laying on top of your bags or if it's twisted over onto itself from the last drain it will restrict venting and in turn restrict filling. I've not verified this myself but something I will be looking into next time I'm out.

Thank you for the response, as well as looking into that. Mine is all the factory ballast, I have only added lead, as I can kinda move it around to suit what we’re doing, and don’t want to lose the storage that bags would require. So hopefully venting isn’t my issue, but I will look at the vents. I’ve only had this boat for a few months, and only had it on the water about 6 days, so I’m guessing it’s more user error, than anything.

I’m just curious if our fill times on the factory ballast are close to other people’s. I realize there is going to be some variation, but wondering if there’s some sort of standard fill time that is close.. I’m going to time each bag out separately on Friday or Saturday, which may solve my problem, if I’m fully empty to start, which I think was my issue last time..

I’ve just been unable to get them perfect, from day one.. we run the backs full for surfing, so they aren’t as big of an issue, but would still like to know what the hell I’m doing!!

Thanks again for any insight! This forum has been a big help, getting everything dialed!

Don’t forget to give your timers extra time to allow water to dump out the vent so you know for sure where they’re at. Ocassionally it may take a while for a pump to prime and in the meantime your “gauge” thinks it’s filling when it’s not.

That’s part of what I’m slowly realizing. I thought we were “empty” last weekend, and ended up having who knows how much water in there. Probably ended up pushing “empty all” 3x before we were sure that we were empty. I think that was part of our problem when timing the ballast fill times.

We always hit "drain all" when pulling out of the water on the ramp. Always get an extra 1-2 gallons out that way. The launch ramp angle helps push the water back to the stock ballast pick up tube. Doesn't help so much with the PNP bags as extra water likes to ride in the gully in the locker. May try stuffing a pool noodle down there to keep them level.

My wife always seems to time it just right with the drain all as I walk back to pull the plug and attached the transom trailer straps. I can't imagine she's purposefully trying to soak me...

That actually helps, because I wasn’t sure where the pickups are in those ballasts.. I think I was probably towing an extra 500-1000 pounds in water over the Sierras, last weekend.. I screwed with the timers without taking note of what they were originally set at, and not knowing exactly how the system works, with the assumption that the “reset” button would put them back to factory settings, but it doesn’t!! I suppose I can get it to dump some extra water driving with the taps plate all the way up, if that’s the case, also..

                Thanks for the info!!
