Unfortunately where we are located (Meadow Lake Provincial Park in Sask) we've had a devastating start to the surfing season....... Last week our lake was evacuated due to a forest fire coming within a hundred feet of our cabins (52 cabins on Jeannette Lake) but thankfully the winds shifted and spared all the cabins from sure destruction but just as they opened the road back to our lake and we pulled into our cabin to check on it this Saturday we noticed a hot spot turn (shown just over our cabins) and within 30 minutes turn into a full fledge forest fire (this picture was taken 15 minutes after we arrived and about 30 minutes before it turned into a massive fire and with the winds pushing the fire directly North (away from our cabins at Jeannette, you'll see our cabins in this picture) but in a direction of another lake, Flotten Lake (cabins and lake not shown but 10 miles away) and within 24 hours of the fire starting all 13 cabins were lost.
They had 6 large water bombers and 6 helicopters + 2 large jet planes dropping fire retardent working on the fire for the entire time but wind + fire = an unfair battle........
Fingers crossed the rains come and the winds die down but with 30+c (90+f) weather coming this entire week I have a feeling I'll be on pins and needles.
