    tower speakers

are 2 8 inch speakers louder than 4 6.5 in speakers? As of right now I have 4 6.5s they are 65 watts each and I have looked at 8s that are 200 watts each.

depends on alot of different things, amps driving it, amp tuning, quaility of speakers etc. 4 Pile 6.5 vs 2 Rev 8's optimally tuned, yea the 2 8 's will destroy it.

    Need more information.
    Type of speaker
    Amp thats driving them

      The "rating" of the speaker means little. What does matter is the wattage they are power with by the amp. With that said;

4 6.5 can be louder then 2 8" if we are talking the same type and wattage. For example, 4 6.5" coaxial with can be louder then 2 8" coaxial. 4 6.5" HLCD can be louder then 2 8" HLCD.

Now, one advantage the 8" will have over any amount of 6.5", is mid-bass depth. The larger speaker will almost always be more balanced and smoother then smaller speakers.

2 larger properly powered speaker could be louder then 4 under powered speakers.

So what type of speakers are we dealing and what amp(s) are we talking about, if you will be using an existing amp.

well the amps are clarion 2510xc i have 2 of them. The speakers I am looking at right now are Clarion CMQ1622RL Coaxial Speaker 60 watt rms to replace 4 pheonix gold 65 watts each. the 8in are KICKER 43KM84LCW 600 Watt coaxial. the amps say 700w 5 channel and its broken up like this.
        4 ohms: 50 watts x 4 chan. + 200W x 1 chan.
        2 ohms: 75 watts x 4 chan. + 300W x 1 chan.
i have 7 cabin speakers and a 12in sub not sure on the sub wattage its an sony expld was thinking maybe 3-400 watts, and all the cabin speakers are clarion 6.5 and i believe they are 75watts but not 100%. thats the most info I can give l

The clarion is going to be super peaky and likely 4 is going to be the louder of those 2 setups. Its got a larger compression driver type tweeter. Likely to over power the small 6.5 mid-bass. So of volume is what you want, then the for clarion cmq1622rl is going to be possibly the louder. However, with your given setup, the most you are going to get to each one, is 50W. Thats not much for any tower speaker. Id want no less then 100W rms to each. If you want sound quality, id take the 8" Kicker KM8 over any 6.5" any day. But 50W is still not enough. Id want at least 200W rms to each of them.

does bridging the amp make a difference? I dont know enough about this stuff but when i get it installed would a good install guy be able to get more out of it? I snooped your website chptril would the KM 6.5" 4Ω LED Coaxial kickers be a better choice then the clarions or does it not really matter?

Bridging the amp can make a difference, but it would take both amps to power just the 4 6.5" tower speaker or 1 amp to power the two 8".

I feel the Kicker KM654 will sound a little better then the clarion, but not at loud. Even still, ill take two 8" over four 6.5, unless peak volume was my goal, in that case, id go with the KMTS674. They are a true HLCD, just might fit your four current 6.5" pods, but they will certainly need more then 50W. You would have to give up 4 chnls of one amp or add another amp just for them.

i think I need to take a stereo course to learn more about all this stuff its a lot more complicated than just buying stuff and having someone put it in lol. I think before I upgrade in going to actually listen some of the boats on the lake and see what they have and try to compare and hopefully that can help steer me in a better direction

You could study it yourself and try to figure it out, but if it was me I would give Mike my budget and ask him what he would do with it... There is a reason that Mike is the most trusted guy for advice on this forum. Way better than losing a half of a season trying to figure out what speakers to get, and then still going with a wild guess unless you replace everything in your boat from speakers to amps, to match whatever boat sounds the best.

so Ive been thinking and planning. I think I may have a set up that can work hopefully mike will beable to offer more input on this project. So to recap what I have:
                    2x clarion 2510 xc 5 channel amps 700watt peak 50watt x 4 + 150watt
                    7 clarion 65 watt 6.5 cabin speakers
4 tower speakers need to be replaced
                    1 12 inch sub 300watt sony
my plan is to keep the existing cabin speakers for this year and replace the tower speakers with 2x KMTC8 kickers and keep the sub as well. I will run the cabin speakers off the clarion amps at 50 watts a piece and the 8 inch twer kickers with the 150 channel on the amps. this set up will leave one 50 watt channel open. I still have a sub to run i have an 500 watt mono channel alpine car amp. I know its not marine but i only wanna use it this summer then replace next year.

so my questions now are 1- does the cabin speakers being powered at 50 watts instead of the 65 they are rated for matter? will they still sound good does 15 watts make a huge difference? 2- if I go this way does mike have the KMTC8 and how much for 2? do they come with mounting brackets it looks like they do on the website? will the brackets fit my samson tower with tube size of 3inches. will the car amp work for 3 months of use?

                      No, not at all.

                      2x KMTC8 kickers
2 pair as in 4 speaker total or 1 pair as in 2 speakers total?

and the 8 inch tower kickers with the 150 channel on the amps
If you mean on the chnl 5 of each clarion 2510xc, those look to be low-pass woofer chnls only and will not work for a full range speaker.
