Walkthru hatch feels like its going to crack - 2009 22ve

The walkthrough fiberglass hatch (starboard transom) on my 2009 22ve feels like its about to crack under foot. When I press down on the hatch with my hand it feels as if the foam beneath is broken. Is there anything I can do to reinforce this hatch before it actually does crack? I would just slap a filler cushion down to protect this area, but the previous owner did not have the filler cushion. I appreciate the help in advance.

I'd say your options are to remove it and have it repaired or as an interm solution you could add some angle bar on the bottom side to help reinforce it. I would think someone must have jumped on it if it flexes that much as I find mine fairly solid.

I would fix it so it is right....but you can build a filler cushion pretty easy. Get a piece of HDPE from InterstatePlastics, cut to size and have local apholstery shop install the foam and vinyl. I built a bow filler cushion for my boat last year and it turned out great. (I used a piece of cardboard to make my template and then traced it on the HDPE and then cut to size so it would fit perfectly)

On my 07’ that portion is just a fiberglass hatch that you can cover with the filler pad. Can you not see the bottom of it by opening it on an 09’ or are you talking about the other side (port) that’s padded?

Its the side you can install the filler pad in. On the other side there is fiberglass. Both sides look good, but its the foam in the middle that was broken. I removed the latch to have a look and sure enough the foam was cracked up. I went ahead and took it over to a fiberglass shop and they are going to cut the bottom out, replace the inside with something sturdier and reglass. $385 for the job.

I see what your saying, I just assumed that hatch was solid fiberglass.
