    Alpha Z tow point swivel

Hey Tige’ owners! I’m curious if anyone has swapped their alpha Z tower tow point pylon swivel/nav light for something more solid. The two people I know that have these towers both have issues with them. The little catch ball thingy gets worn and the unit just swivels around. I think it’s a dumb design personally.
Is there a good fix or has anyone messed with replacing it altogether with a solid non swivel pylon with either a light on top of it or relocated the light?

    Cheers!

Jet, you can back out the detent so it will catch and hold instead of being all flip floppy.

Take a 90 degree pick or similar and back the screw part of the spring loaded ball latch out a turn or so and it will catch again. Or even with just a flat head screw driver you can catch the ear tabs and rotate the screw outward so it catches. You can even completely remove and put some red lock tight on it then reinstall and it shouldn't loosen again.

This is good info, mine only hooks in one direction. If I’m reading correctly, I will back out the piece on the swivel tow point so that it sticks far enough out to contact the ball again? The female end screws into the tow point?

        Thanks!

I will try and take some pictures on the next one that comes into my bay. You can back out one side of swivel so that ball detent can catch. The other side becomes more involved and you need a new piece as the extraction method toasts it. IIRC the part you can adjust catches so that tow point is better engaged.

The real question is what what the point of the flip over? Trying to keep us from playing at night?

              Acted as a dome light.

Thanks for the info all, I figured it must be adjustable or at least replaceable. It is just one of those designs that makes me wonder what they were thinking, why? It’s just added complexity to a proven, simple design that looked just fine. Guess they gotta have some gee whiz stuff to wow new customers. They went away from this design with the new towers correct?
I haven’t spent any time really looking into fixing it but I knew somebody on here would have something for me. Love this forum!
