Can a cover be treated to improve water replellency?

303 fabric gaurd spray. Spray it on cover, let it dry and you have a bette than new cover.

Yea, it works great....makes a HUGE difference. I did this last summer and plan to do again this year. I used Starbrite mildew cleaner/remover and soaked cover in tub (hot water) for a couple hours agitating the cover...then took outside and hung it on trash cans and ladders and sprayed it off really well with hose. After drying, I treated the outside and inside using a nice hand sprayer....do it in no wind or you will lose a lot of spray. It will take a full gallon to do it right. I also did the same thing to my bimini and they both looked brand new and shed water like off a ducks back and looked brand new. Last year I bought the 303 fabric guard off Amazon.....this year they had an online sale at Overtons.com (20% off if you spent $100 plus what I wanted was already discounted so it was a great deal). I ended up paying: on gallon of 303 ($40) as well as gallon of Starbrite fabric guard (for $40). To get it over $100, I also bought some 303 metal polish and I already used that on my stainless on the boat and it made it look brand new! That was a couple weeks ago, just waiting for some good weather to get cover done. Also gonna take my cover to local apholstery shop to get everything double stitched since the cover is a 2014 and while it looks awesome, I tow with it on and want to keep it perfect.

I like to wash the cover first, in a large front load or coin laundry machine, then hang to dry. Once dry, lay out on a clean surface inside up. Put your water proofer in a pump up garden sprayer and coat the cover right to to point of saturation. Let set to dry. Check from time to time if there are any pools, spread them out with a clean paint brush.

Why the inside? Dunno, its what I learned decades ago water proofing tents and tarps. Its always worked foe me.

Good info here I'll be doing it this year as I haven't done it since I've owned my boat
