    Boat in shop

Well, looking for some help. my boat has been at the dealer for a month now, and they can not figure out what is wrong with it. Took it in because it was running really rough. an injector went out. Then they said they hear a noise from the transmission. Put a new transmission in it, and still have a noise. Put a new "v" drive in it, still have a noise. They have done all of this twice. They run the engine with the new transmission without the v drive hooked up, and no sound, runs perfect. They have tried 2 new v drives. They have calls into walter v drive, but nothing yet. any ideas?

Oddball coupler from tranny to V-drive or V-drive to prop shaft? Prop shaft allignment? Strut bushing? I don't know, just tossing stuff out there.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Is it a: whine, knock, rattle, etc. In gear, out of gear, both? Does it increase/decrease volume/frequency as the engine speed increases/decreases?

well, honestly, I have never heard what matt is saying he hears. I knew the engine was knocking because #4 injector went bad. I took it in for that. He called me saying i need a new transmission. That did not fix whatever he was hearing. so matt ordered a new v drive. he called me yesterday and that was not it either. so, i really don't know what he is hearing, or what is wrong. i'm asking you guys to help me try and help him figure it out. whatever you guys think to check, i ask him to.

New Tranny, New V-Drive still a whine or noise?

I gotta think along the lines of Nicky. Coupler, or strut bushing? Maybe a bent shaft? Belt whine maybe?

Are they running it in the shop with a Fake a lake, or on the water?

As you know, it's gonna be hard to diagnose without hearing it.

If Matt can't figure it out, you are probably hosed.

I guess that it is a good thing that he is trying to figure out a problem you did not know you had.

yeah, thanks tall! they took it to the lake to test it on the second transmission/v drive. but, yeah, im kinda worried. if matt can't figure it out i dont know what they are gonna do. they have had it there a month now. alot of time waiting on parts though. maybe i can talk him into just giving me one of those RZ's for trade?

Maybe Matt needs to get his hearing checked. Its pretty loud playing golf with all those airplanes flying by

hey jim, this could be your problem, but you decided not to get this boat, you had to get a pretty black one!

                            Wine Noise

You may want to check crank shaft end play on the engine. No more than .003 crank end play. If you have more than that your crank may be putting a load on the tranny thrust bearning causing it to wine.

Just a thought I had this happen on a drag boat that dad and I built.

Uh Oh - Out today boarding and I have a new noise. Upon accelaration and decelaration a grinding noise. Sounds like the taps actuator when you shut off the engine but much louder.

Matt will be seeing the boat when I come up for the Lake Mead Coldwater reunion.
