Hello all,
I am getting ready to do all of the annual service items on the boat for the first time. I have done a lot of research over the last few days, read forums, downloaded manuals etc. and I think I have a handle on the oil, trans, and v-drive fluid changes. I will of course change the impeller and I am also going to change the G Force fuel filter because I am not sure if that has been done in awhile. I am not going to change the smaller in line fuel filter on top of the engine because that was done about a year ago (or maybe i should change it?). I have two main questions I am hoping to get help with:
1) is there any other typical service items I am missing? I will also do all the operational checklist items like making sure the blower, bilge pump, lights, trailer breaks, etc. work.
2) It looks like I will be able to drain the engine oil and perhaps v-drive and trans fluids through the drain hose and out the main drain plug above my taps plate without much of a mess. But how do I drain the coolant? it is the closed loop system. The manual notes two drain plugs on each side of the block. Do I really just remove those and let all of the coolant drain into the bilge area and out of the rear drain plug? This seems very messy. I suppose I could syphon it from up top but the engine service manual says it can take 24 qts and I only have a hand transfer pump so that would take awhile. Plus I doubt this method would get all of the fluid from inside the block?
Or... is it not worth flushing the entire cooling system?
Any help is appreciated. I hope to post a write up and photos on all of this as I go.
Thank you, Kyle
