I cannot imagine it’s easy to get something like this right %100 of the time when it’s all based on previous models and email exchanges. It’s easy to criticize the product, but if he’s correcting everything immediately upon request, I’d personally like to give the company the benefit of the doubt. As a side note, I’ve seen many more people “completely” satisfied than unhappy with the FAE product.
You’re totally right D&P, they have a great product and I personally love it. I just wish that the small things were corrected. I expect a bit of tweaking and light fabrication with this product but only because that’s what is the norm for me dealing with it. Larry has been great to work with but I’m guessing he gets pretty sick of all the calls, a bunch of which could easily be avoided with little tweaks to their process. It is easy to criticize on the outside looking in though and like you said in the end I think the vast majority of people are completely satisfied with the end result. I really didn’t mean to come of as bashing them or the product, just trying to let others know what to expect if they install one themselves.

I am not exactly sure what size the bolts are....they came with the FAE. You are correct in saying there is zero room to tighten. I basically tried to hold the nut while it was tighten from outside. I had to get a little creative !

We’d all be driving Pintos and watching VHS on square TVs.
Yeah, kinda I guess? When you commercialize a novel invention, we can all help you out by calling your work out.

BTW I apologize, I should have thanked you for my clean welds on my latest FAE. But since it’s underwater, I can’t see it.

I think you should go ahead with your plan to launch an improved version of FAE! See what Larry does.

You think what I said is wrong? (no, I dont really take credit for the better looking welds.)

I would hardly classify their success or product as mediocre. Maybe not good enough for you, but overall, its excellent. I am sure they’ve made decisions on practical vs perfect in production.

Sometimes you’re (my impression, mind you) hypercritical of things. Maybe it’s an unjustified impression I have. Just ignore me, honestly. Most folks do, and it doesn’t bother me.

BTW I generally don’t pick apart the work of others in my field in public forums or settings. Perhaps it’s more common than I know?

It’s all good man, just telling what it looks like from another angle. You don’t need to agree or care.

I am 3 for 3 on perfectly functional FAE products. I dig ‘em.

@elevatedconcept Thanks for sharing the pic. I had yet to see a pic of the OEM mandrel drawn. It's exactly what I expected it to be. I recall you got your 2018 RZX3 early. Was the FAE already on or did you have it added after?

My $.02 on the issues raised about FAE alignment. I think most of the issues stem from the flapper mount holes drilled by Tige vs what I presume are CNC machined holes in the FAE mount which is why FAE seems to be allowing for some play in the holes to adjust alignment at install. At least based on what others have offered on this thread.

Brew mine had it on. My 18Rzx2 was the early build they added after. This rzx3 was well into 18 calendar production run.

And with it turned up, it makes the water in the exhaust just sit inside there and not run out like I think it should.
The pipe has to go up like that to clear the taps plate when up. I gotta admit that it can’t be easy getting these angles just right and then welding together. I guess that’s where jigs come in handy.
Regarding water sitting in the pipe, on the pipes I’ve installed there is a small drain hole drilled into the bottom of the pipe towards the exhaust flange on the boat.

I live just down the road from Larry’s shop. I’ve been in there several times. They work their *** off and are constantly improving their products. I have nothing but respect for them.

As far as through bolting. I’m thinking about experimenting with a butterfly type nut. This way I don’t have to get a wrench in there.
