2015 RZ4 Sale Price

Hey guys. I have some big things turning with the BABz boat fender stuff and I am now considering selling the 2015 RZ4. But, I could use some help on setting a price. I have never sold a boat myself and pricing seems to be all over the place. This boat also has some unique properties. The biggest of which is the newly installed (just last week) Raptor 400 directly from Indmar. It's a long story. But in short water made its way into the old engine some how (I wasn't on board). The new engine has only seen one 2 hour cruise around the lake. I also have the plates to switch the boat to TAP3. These are not a kit. They are actual Tige Taps 3 plates. Was planning on doing this switch when the boat made it back from the new engine install. But now I'm thinking I'll leave this decision up to the new owner. The boat itself is far from perfect. It has some dings here and there and some ripping seems in the interior. But overall is in great shape. What do you guys think? NADA gave me a range of 80k all the way up to 105k. I can't keep those ducks off haha! You can't see his 4 buddies in this picture. Fortunately they don't ever poop on the boat. They just like to hang on the swim platform and sun pad. I'm not completely decided on whats next. But I have some ideas.

I often use this formula when valuing a Tige: Purchase Price minus 10 years = Purchase Price / 2. (assuming about 50 hours per year of use). So in 2025, that boat would be worth half what you paid for it.

So if you assume that decrease is linear, then you would subtract 15% from your purchase price and have something to start with.

for me, this would be the red flag and guessing others will feel the same way. it would have to be priced accordingly for me to take a "chance" with it. like buying a 2 year old car with 15k on the clock and a new motor.

My thinking is it will never be worth more than it is now with the new motor. But I have nothing to hide about the boat. I allowed an acquaintance to take the boat out without me on it. Literally the only time the boat has been on the water without me in it. I was at a football game and got the call. I'm still not really sure what happened. I now suspect it was driver error. Apparently, water got into the boat somehow and stayed in the bilge sloshing around. I was told in certain scenarios water can get thrown up in the engine compartment via the belts and then start to create a mist that can be sucked into the air intake. At first I thought this was total BS. But as this has played out it seems like more and more of a possibility. Thank god I made this guy purchase 3rd party insurance before the trip. But it has been quite the ordeal. It was mostly between Indmar and Insurance going back and forth on who would pay for it. The old motor ended up going to Indmar for full diagnostic. Which they then determined the failure was not due to any defects on their end. Then it was a matter of getting insurance to write the check. Which took forever. The entire process from getting it towed off the lake to first test drive with the new motor was 6 months. I have all documentation for everything from start to finish, including the Indmar feedback on the old engine and clean install of the new engine at the dealer. I'm hoping this satisfies any suspicions anyone might have.

I bet he had front bags maxed and took a big one over the front. Not hard to do on the pickles. If he then kept on surfing or running boat nose high water definitely starts to pool in the belt region.
That's unfortunate but glad you didn't get stuck with the bill in the end. So, is Indmar offering a warranty period on new engine as well?? Full 5 year like new??
That to me would be the big swing in purchasing. Nothing wrong with having a new motor with a big fat warranty to me. If a guy was that worried about trans and vdrive condition all that would be needed is a fluid analysis now of vdrive and trans for a baseline. Do it again 25 and 50 hours after and you would know if you can expect trouble down the road.

Regardless, clean looking boat. Lots of options. If I recall you did some of the liquid lumens reviews ya?? Are they still on the boat?? Good luck with the sale.

Props to you for making the guy purchase the insurance to use the boat, lot of people would not have done that and be stuck now. Regardless of getting the new engine, I am sure the hassle/stress has not been worth it to you. You are a better guy than me cause my boat would NEVER be allowed out of the garage without me along, no matter who it was. Especially when you are talking about a boat that is worth a small house! That is how friends become enemies and since I am such a hardass, I don't have enough friends to lose any, lol. Glad it worked out for you tho, great looking boat. I know if I were a buyer the new engine would make me nervous, but your explaination was one of the few that I would buy and may feel ok about, so I would make sure people know, otherwise they will think something was wrong with boat to make something like that happen. Guessing regardless of the engine being new, it will devalue the boat some simply due to perception. Hopefully it does not work out that way for you since it wasn't due to your negligence/fault.

I know Tige currently has a 5 year warranty, is that still active on the boat?

Between engine, dings, and tears at 2 -3 years old it just sounds like it has been really beat on, which would significantly lower the value.

Boats lose roughly 25% off MSRP the first year. Most people are buying them at 15% of MSRP off the showroom floor so if you think someone is going to pay you anywhere close to 15% off get ready for a long sale process. On a 3 year old boat a new engine adds ZERO VALUE and like most have said screams run. NADA value on boats is so far off that its not worth the paper its printed on. Search OIB for SOLD boat prices. Not the boats for sale that aren't gonna sell for asking price. Expensive used (50K+) boats are a tough sell...

Your likely going to have to price it on the low end of the scale considering the replaced motor and your described above average wear. You don't have to take my word but I'm a flipper and I swap my main rig every season and usually 5-10 others. Its a sickness, but if there is something I know its the boat business.
