My tow vehicle impressions

See that's funny, I've always driven GM and had great luck. This last truck I switched to a F150 b/c I loveeeee the interiors, and my dad has always had real good luck w/ his F-250's. Of course we both trade our vehicles once a year, so it's hard to really tell what happens in the long run; but this F150 has been the biggest lemon ever. It doesn't start about 20% of the time. The fuel line blew and left me stranded at the lake 300 miles from home on the 4th of July. Sliding rear window motor died. There's lots more, but you get the idea. I'm in the process of suing Ford b/c they refused to buy this sucker back for the no start problem b/c they said they couldn't reproduce it. Yet, a friend of mine who's a Ford tech witnessed it one day while with me at the lake. So no more Ford's for me... bad taste in my mouth about not standing behind their product.... which is subsequently the Reason I bought my Tige (because they do stand behind their product).

Sorry to hear your experience with your F-150. I bought one of the first Lariats they made back at the end of '93 (2004 year model). I've got over 72K on it and have only ever done routine maintenance to it. It tows my heavy 2100v Limited quite well and you can't beat the quiet and refined ride (especially for a 4x4).

I think I would be happier with a diesel, especially from a gas mileage perspective. I didn't really tow very much with my truck until this year (my boat ramp is next door to my house), but with the drought, I'm having to go to a different lake altogether.

05 F-150SC with tow pkg. rated 9,600lbs. 5.4L 3v 300/300 hp/torque 46,000 miles and i love it. towed a 28ft flats boat with it and all size tiges seems to do quite well. only problems horn went out and one tail lamp was holding moisture. other than that perfect so much my wife keeps stealing it. i think she likes it more than me.quiet comfortable ride all the way. i have always owned nissans but the titan was just to much and didnt ride as good as the ford did when i drove them in 05.

Towing

Well I have to say it`s almost personal preference.I have a 20V and had a 02 F 250 7.3 bone stock.It towed great,I now have an 06 F 250 6.0L..the 7.3 was long bed super cab,the 6.0 a crew cab long bed,the 7.3 actually rode better when towing,I have a PRedator stage 2 module,It outruns mustang GT`s and several other "sports" cars,I laugh all the time! I have gone up against Duramax trucks and have always come out on top,the 6.0 L stock does not perform as well as the stock Duramax though..One thing about the predator is it goes inline with the ICP so it fools the computer to think the oil pressure is low.The computer does not know it is in there and does not scramble the PCM ID like some chips..Happy towing all and again it`s all in what YOU like,the brand,the styling the interior ergonomics etc...I work for Ford so I get a better price on them than going to the "other" brand..Always remember when buying a vehicle for towing,more is better!

There are wars over religion and territory and then there is Ford vs. Chevy. It usually comes down to what your father or grandfather drove. I was raised Chevy.

Hmm, my grandfather drove ships and my father drove German cars.

Too bad they don't offer those super quiet diesels you find in a Mercedes for trucks. That's my only complaint about any of the diesels...why do they have to be so darnloud?

The Duramax is pretty damn quiet for deisel. It was something I always hated about deisels, that and the smoke. That just isn't the case with the modern deisels, Ford, Chevy or Dodge. Although the Duramax has been quiet for a few years now. It's only been the last year or so the Ford and Dodge have made this a reality for their deisel programs.

1999 GMC Yukon 4wd with 350 engine and 3.73 gears or 2003 Silverado extended cab with 4.8l engine and 3.73 gears. They both do a good job towing an 05 24V.

Do yourself a favor and go to a Mercedes dealership and ask to drive one of their new ultra-quiet diesels, it's supposed to be indistiguishable from gas powered models.

Ive had Fords Chevys and now a Dodge. They have all been great. Well over 180K on all of them. Just make sure you buy more size and power then you think you will ever need.
