    Coldest water temperature

Getting ready to surf and wondering water is the minimum water temperature that is acceptable with a 3mil full wetsuit. No gloves or booties.

LOL. that is open to interpretation! Some guys here will surf in water temps with a wetsuit that I need a dry suit for. Full or shorty? I tend to draw the line at wetsuit vs drysuit somewhere in the 60's, depending on air temp, sunshine, wind, etc. I have a 3mil shorty though, not a full wet suit.

Funny. My cutoff for a shorty wetsuit is 62. If it's above that on a sunny day then I got without.

The coldest I've ever surfed is around 56 in a long 4/5 mil.

I believe the wetsuit I have is rated into the 30s if you are that crazy.

We used to take the first run on the year when the lake was still partially iced over. I have never owned a dry suit. Heaviest thing I have had is a 3/2 Full wetsuit.

Disclaimer: I was younger than and it wasn't something I would do every day or call "comfortable"!!!! More of a do it to say you did it kind of thing...

Why no bootie or gloves? Booties, gloves and a neoprene hat make the water comfy and fun into the 40's.

For me, water hurts at about mid 50's. I like a full suit below 60. Half suit for anything warmer

Wetsuits are not all created equal. Make sure it's lined, taped and has the folds that keep water from entering zippers. Most of the time, our wetsuits are about 50% dry on the inside when we take them off. Bottom line..don't waste your money on crappy wetsuits.

Here was my crew last week in Colorado. Mid 40's

Hot Shower into wetsuit is the bomb. Raptor motor with hot water in case anyone still thinks raptors don't put out hot water.

Anything above 60, I’m good to go without a suit. Below that I have a 1.5mm top just to wear when skiing to take the chill off and not restrict movement.

For low 50s I’ve got a full O’Neil wetsuit with the front zip(which I love).

Just got a O’Neil fluid dry suit and booties for the match days up here in Canada

No one has commented about air temp yet. I live by the 105 rule as I call it.

Air temp and Water temp have to be above 105 degrees if combined for me to go out. Some say 100 combined, but that’s a little cold for me.

-I have taken my 3/2 wet suit to 48 degree water temp before but air temp was 65
-Generally 50 and above water temp I am good on a 3/2
-60+ water temp I am good in 1.5mm my heater top
-65+ I am good on just trunks

My wife wears a 4/3 on 50+ water temp. Her 3/2 on 58+ water temp. Her shorty on 65+ water temp.

We don’t like booties. We use them in the winter, but with booties we can’t move our feet on our boards. Not moving our feet really makes surfing tough sometimes.

If we’re talking combined I’ve been out below 90 with no booties, gloves, or hood, just a full wetsuit.

Last year I was in full wet suit, air temp was 70 degrees, water temp was 38 painfully degrees. I don’t think air temp is applicable until you are back in the boat. Water temp overrides everything. You’ll never watch Titanic the same again.

Did I mention that I’m in Alabama and my blood is pretty thin? We will be riding next weekend and it’s supposed to be in the 70’s with water temperature in the upper 50’s. I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Im with Boardman, my tolerance has certainly gone down with age, sadly the "hay yall, watch this" is still going strong A few years ago, we surfed Mead with mid to low 50's water and maybe 60 air temp and I wore board shorts and a 1 mill long sleeve top and was fine. A 10 minute surf run is different then say white water rafting or something.

Whoops it’s a rip curl. Older version of this one, great suit, not too restrictive.

Thanks, and a good price at $200! Why did you pickup the other one?

Edit, just realized it's a drysuit.
