    2000-2006 Tige 20-22 VSwitch for skiing/surfing - Goods/bads?

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and have been looking for a good used boat to ski, learn to surf and tube with our family/friends. I like the Tige TAPS system and have been looking at the 2000-2006 20 or 22 Switch Vs. We want a V drive bowrider for the layout / seating / storage.
We'll probably be on Lake Mead, Lake Mojave most of the time, but also maybe Lake Havasu and/or Lake Powell so wanted a boat that can handle rougher water well. We'll usually have 6-8 on board (adults/kids), but was hoping to have seating / room for up to 10.
Am I looking at the right Tige models? Is there a big difference between any of those years (2000 to 2006)?
    Thanks for the advice

I owned a 2004 switch V, the boat was okay but needed a ton of weight to surf well at all. Even with a ton of weight the surf wake was not that good. You will be on some large bodies of water, I'd look for at least a 22V or 22VE. They will surf well weighted properly, that 2' will make a big difference. Someone on here will correct me I'm sure but we have a 2006 24VE now and the Tige speedset is not the best. It works it's just much more finicky than perfect pass which will be on the older models, I believe 2000-2005. Good luck with your search!

If you're going to be on big lakes always go with a bigger boat. I always suggest to stay away from the '06 because of the mefi4 and throttle by wire setup. Its the only year that has it. Parts are still available and they are great boats, just not a fan of it being a one year only set up. To me the '07+ have the best combination of gauges and electronics. If you can, go with an '07.
      Oh Yeah!

OK. Thx for the advice. I've seen the 20VSwitch listed at 8 or 9 people max (depending on the website) and the 20V I'm looking at doesn't have the yellow 'Max of 9 and 1200 lbs' plate next to the throttle. It's a nice boat that's been kept up, but I think you're right about 22 being better (for the lake and seating capacity, but didn't realize the surf wake would be that much different too). I saw a nice 22Vswitch listed in Michigan, but I'm sure the transpo $$ would be outrageous.
        Thx

More specifically, the 06Ve. A 22 or 24 "V" was phasing out and still ran the cable throttle and perfect pass. There are exceptions to both though. There some V's with Accu-Set and some Ve's with perfect pass depending on their production date. I would approach an 06 with caution rather then discount all 06.

However,, with Richards new touch pad, the failed cruise control issue is solved. IIRC< all 06 models were pre-wired for the accu-set, so it would be plug n play if you came across one that the dealer did not order it with speed control.

I also agree that less then 22 might be small for big water.

I have driven across the largest parts of Lake Mohave and Lake Mead in rough water. I'm not sure I would try either again in any size boat, but definitely wouldn't do it in a 20 footer. Good luck with your search.

You’ll find a 20V is gonna be way too small for 6-8 people to comfortably use. The increased beam and extra length of the 22V/VE make the boat feel a ton bigger. For the amount of people you want to have on the boat regularly I wouldn’t even consider a 20’ boat. My

2000 20CI Missouri Ozarks. Ok, big 4-6 ft. water is no fun but still safe in Tige. We have 6-8 kids and adults all the time. With 2-4 in the water, plenty of room in the boat. When cooling off the swim platform is a great convW6M_8717.jpgersation area. We will go out to eat and go through big water. We water sport back in the arms and coves. M&M

I have an 05 22v its great handles the big lakes well makes a good surf wake when weighted properly. We have a big family and there is always lots of us on there 6-8 will be fine.
