    Portable Battery Jump Start System?

    Hey all,

Tonight (09/28/06) on Woot!, they have a Vector Jump Start System for $30 with $5 shipping. I was thinking this might be a nice-to-have on trips out on the water when a dead battery threatens your fun. These sales only last 24 hours, or until all they have is sold out (no idea what the quantity is). I have no financial interest in this, just passing along what I thought might be a neat thing to have as a safety thing. Sale ends at 10pm Pacific time tomorrow (9/29)..sooner if they all sell out.

    What do ya think?

    Hi
I carry a temp battery pacy as well. Saved me once. I worked at a car dealership for a long time & we used them all. We found you get what you pay for. The cheaper models tended to not start cars with 6 or 8 cylinders. This was 4 years ago. Please check this model has an off switch, mine does not. I let my sister borrow it to start her car, she then drove around with it in her trunk, the cables came off holders & touched, trunk caught FIRE! They are also handy when your neighbours battery goes dead.

I always carry one on my boat as well. The unit I bought also has the compressor and a power inverter for AC powered equipment. A lot easier to use than jumper cables!

A check of Woot! this morning shows they all sold out...they had 5003 of them, and it only took 8 hours or so. Pretty cool.

            Size

If you invest in one for the boat make sure you check the dimensions if you buy it on the net, some of these can be fairly large.I bought one from lowes for about $60 it has a light with and on off switch and a power one switch tha is on top that you have to twist,I don`t remomber the amps but I`m a tech at a ford dealer and it will start a car that the battery is completly dead. But it`s small, they have come a long way..I don`t carry one unless we go to a larger lake or one that isn`t usually busy..JUst make sure you have room for it in a secure place so it doesn`t bounce around!

woot.com is a website that has one day, one item specials. They post them at 10pm Pacific time every night, and sell one item for 24 hours or until it sells out. Mostly electronic gear, but every once in a while thay have stuff like they did last night. Every now and then Woot has what they call a 'woot-off', where they sell small batches of items until they are gone, then post another item. These can last 1 or 2 days. You can tell it's a woot-off because there are little rotating beacons on the front page. They also have what they call a 'bag-o-crap'. Unknown item or items, for $5 plus $5 shipping. Usually it is just that, crap...little weird items, but they also sell anything else that might be in their warehouse...including big screen HDTVs or stereo systems. It's basically a gamble, but for $5 you might get an iPod case, a chinese Sudoku game, or a 61 inch DLP HDTV.

www.woot.com is the site...check it out.

A charger is a must have for your boat. One of the most important safety items. Never had to use mine, but a nice piece of mind knowing that a dead battery will not strand me.

                  ...or just run dual batteries.

I run dual batteris and still have good sized one of these onboard.

I have helped others with it!

Sure is easy to just hand them the unit and not worry about the difficulties asccoiated with cables use between boats on water.
