    Handling difference between 2013 and 2016 Z3

Ok,..so who has ridden equivalent 13 vs 16 Z3s? Reason I ask is that the 13 has 3 tracking fins while the 16 has one fin.

On ething I hate is chine lock. I generally get it when the boat is a overloaded on one side and I turn into that side. I expect it, know how to counter it and it's generally not a problem for me. However, an inexperienced driver in tight quarters (think small private lake) might get into trouble.

So, that said, anyone know if the 3 tracking fin Z3 handles better than the 1 fin? I'm thinking of adding another fin or two to mine. I really don't really care about surfing at all so I'm not gonna cry if it messes up the surf wave.

2016 z3 rides fine as the older modal will the fins have to do with crabbing the boat to surf.
    surf till u die.

It handles great except when it doesn't. If they don't make a difference then why do they exist? A lot of the newer boats have an exaggerated keel.

In any case, it seems like increasing the power of the pivot by adding tracking fins would enable better/more consistent turns. Just wondering if anyone has gone from an older to newer model and what they think.

The fins definitely aid in turns at speed. That’s the whole idea of the design in the first place. Tige is going away from them beacause all anyone does anymore is surf.

I’m assuming it’s when you’re in a tight turn and your boat starts to plane on the side of the hull rather than the keel slicing through the water. You can’t turn at all when it does that until you slow down and get the keel back under the water.

-Bakes for what it’s worth my 22VE has 3 fins and turns like it’s on rails. I’ve driven a Z1 that is a single fin and it was super easy to wash it out. I can only sumise that because of the popularity of surfing that they aren’t as concerned with having a boat that turns well at speed as they used to be when they were purpose built for wake boarding and skiing.

Yep...nothing like heading straight for shore with a boatload of people. First noticed it with a 400 pounder in my old boat. Turned for crap to port until I moved said individual to the starboard side. It never happens with just a couple people onboard. Seems like it's worse with a couple adults in the bow.

I’ve been on a friends ski Nautique with a handle of people turning around to go back down the course and it got locked in and it was kinda scary to say the least.

That being said I’ve driven a 2012 Z3 at wakeboard speeds with people and ballast and never had a problem turning.
