    Texas Lakes in March?

I am looking at getting out of the Kansas City area for spring break with the fam and we would love to head south with boat in tow. Any recommendations on good lakes in Texas that we could rent a house and have good access to lake/dock/etc... Also don't know how cold the lakes will be mid March. Thanks in advance!

Possum Kingdom if you want a place away from the city. Lake Travis if you want to trek down that far.
    Oh Yeah!

So many lakes in Texas (all man made), so can't speak to all, but in North Texas we've had a relatively cold winter so far. most water is going to be in the 50s, maybe low 60s. that's nothing for the Canada boys but for us southerners that's basically freezing. But if you get a warm day (which can and does happen) then it's not bad in a wetsuit.

My lake is Possum Kingdom (PK), about an hour west of fort worth. it's really pretty and calm, and is also Tige's home lake, where they film all their glossy collateral and website shots (cliffs).

There are other lakes in North TX and a lot closer to the cities, but PK probably the best one.

And if you took a day trip 2 hours west of PK you could visit the factory :-)
        Oh Yeah!

I would vote PK if you are trying to stay in North Texas. If you come down my way I vote Travis.

We could come further down, my daughter really wants to go to the Magnolia Silos in Waco as well. Any areas of Lake Travis better than others??

Lake Travis is pretty big. I personally stay pretty close to Paradise Cove/Emerald Point as thats where our house is. But I've gone as far down as Pace Bend Park. I would say Emerald Point is the main marina as thats where the old Carlos & Charlies used to be. Now there is a pretty solid restaurant there. But there are marinas and restaurants dotted all over Travis. Canyon Grill, Gnarly Gar, Sundancer Grill (My personal favorite), etc. The large area around the Mansfield Dam is usually pretty windy and therefore choppy. So I hardly ever head over there. I'd be happy to give you any further recommendations. Surprisingly a lot of locations are marked on google maps, yelp, and other sites like that. Even Devil's Cove is on there.

LBJ is also a favorite among boaters if heading down towards the Austin area.

LBJ is a gorgeous lake. One of my favorites in the country.

If she’s looking to do Magnolia I think you should check out Lake Whitney.

Any recommendations for where to stay in Possum Kingdom? Is it fairly easy to find a house to rent on the lake with a dock?

I'm not sure about a house - however, we have stayed at quite a few places around the lake, most have slips that you can use or rent. I think our new favorite is the Lush Resort. Its a 'luxury RV park' that also has some rooms to rent - they have slips as well. Its a cool place.

If you want higher end rooms, check out The Cliffs. The golf course is also something to check out if you play...

Ditto that. you can always check vrbo for houses i suppose, I've actually never bothered checking since we have our own place. There are several condos and cabin rentals spots, the easiest to get to for condos will be The Harbour on the east side, no idea how expensive or nice, but it's the newest. You also might check out Bonita Shores, they have cabin rentals, a marina, and boat slips right on the lake. it's still technically off season so you should get good rates. there are a couple of other spots too. The cliffs, as jslayde says, are nice and yes the golf course is really cool, picturesque, and tough. buy a couple of extra boxes of balls cuz if you are going, bc off fairway it's gone. The only issue there is it's probably pricey and any extra 45 min drive coming from (i think) your direction.

If you're out this coming weekend, PM me, I'm going to be out there. always nice to meet up with fellow Tige owners. We'll be the ones with the spanking new R23 in vivid midnight/graphite, and looking giddy.
