Anyone who boats in Lake Cumberland probably knows of me by now. On Sept 9th I struck a 25' section of a tree that was floating beneath the surface. It ripped one of the scaggs out of the hull and pulled the drive shaft out of the transmission ramming the prop into the rudder and bending it back about 55 degrees. Luckily my buddt kneeboarding behind me did not hit it. I knew we were in trouble right away. We were 30 minutes into a wonderful day of boating when it happened. We started taking on water quickly. I flagged down a jerk in a yellow older model Supra with a dingy white bimini who towed me 300 feet to a nonusable ramp that was 4' out of the water due to the low water level. Only 1 mile away was the next ramp. Without a word this a**hole drops my rope and LEAVES us. We have 5 children under 8 and 4 adults on the boat. I guess he was inconvenienced. The *** even drove by several times later in the day. Since we had no where to beach it I tied it up to the rocks and over the next 2 hours I watched it slowly sink. We tried to get help but no one could tow it with as much water in it. I called a salvage company who could not come out until the next day. The next morning after a $3050.00 salvage and towing bill I got the boat back on the trailer and brought it home.
Lesson learned for all of us: Don't be the a**hole in the yellow Supra. If you see someone in trouble help them and see it through. You may not like losing boating time but just imagine it was you with your kids 12 miles from your ramp in a crippled boat that is sinking.
To make the story even worse after getting the boat home and talking with my insurance agent several times, he suddenly appears in my office and tells me my policy expired and I have no coverage... If you would lilke the name of the agent or the company email me and I will let you know who to avoid!
