2014 Tige Owners with the Indmar GM Fusion Engine - No Knock Sensor???

Just out of curiosity....

Am I missing something, I noticed that the GM Based Indmar Fusion engine does not have any knock sensors on the block

I have owned 2 - MC 197's with the same engine (MCX), both have knock sensors. Most engine do

The plug is on the Harness, but no sensor.

The "base" 5.7L was a stripped down version of the normal Indmar 5.7. They gave it a different name from what I can recall. It's kind of like the 360 that Tige offers now.

Yes it is the base engine, but every modern gas engine has a knock sensor 1990's and up, to adjust timing to eliminate knock or pinging.

Does not seem like something you would take off a engine. I m going to recheck the manifold to see if it is there, but just seems odd to not have one

A knock sensor is not a necessity on a modern engine. Yes they will help to make more power by running closer to a lean condition/advancing timing but they can easily go without them if the timing is backed off in the ecm software.

Is the knock sensor attached to the block drain on the bottom of each side? I'm pretty sure it is..... my 2013 PCM has two of them. It went crazy when my propeller was dented.

yes, that is the normal location for GM.

Just seems odd they would go that route, its not like it would save them lots of money on the part. Its a pretty standard item for a engine.for the last 30 + years .

SUre, but keep in mind the strict and ever getting stricter emission standards. You pretty much have to have a KS due to the higher cooling temps and leaner mix.

as long as it does not affect the engine in any negative way, im fine with it. Just found it strange it was missing.

I would imagine the Raptor engines have one, even the stripped down , non branded version?

As I said before it's not a necessity but they do make the engine more efficient and they increase longevity. To me they are cheap enough that all marine engines should have them. It was part of the stripped down package to reduce cost for entry level pricing of boats. Stripping down engines like this is why I will never recommend the 360 to anyone. Pony up the $2k and get what you are expecting.

Indmar and Tige should have a standard and thats it. Taking away technology that helps and has been around for decades seems counter-intuitive.

Bury it in the price

Maybe this makes since in the R Series. For the RZ series boat this should not be a option.

Truly dis heartening to know they would do this in the RZ Series.

Because there is not alot of info out there, Indmar has removed the link to the Fusion engine on their Site since this summer.

What would have been the 2k upgraded option. Raptor was not available in 2014.

Did they still call it the fusion engine? What did the Package include? ....besides Knock Sensors...lol

2014 - first year with Indmar, only year with Indmar GM - Engine is call the Indmar Fusion 5.7

dont misunderstand, I was not doubting you that the engine existing, just never heard the term "fusion". And yes, I know when Tige switched to PCM from MP and then from PCM to Indmar. Just never heard the term "fusion" used, even from the tige site or indmar themselves.
