New R20 is it worth $2000 to upgrade to 400 6.2l engine

So I'm making the switch from an older Malibu 21VLX to a Tige R20. Dealer says its not worth it to upgrade the motor and that the 360 is plenty even with lots of weight in the boat. I want to save $2000 but don't want to regret it. What do you think? I heard the 400 also comes with a better/quieter transmission.

If you look this has been a popular question lately, there are a few other threads going here in the section about the exact same thing. General consensus is go with the 400. Especially if you are going to run lots of ballast and/or at elevation. The way I look at is that you aren't really saving it unless you are paying cash up front, so whats a little more spread across X amount of payments to get what you really want, and keep your resale value a bit higher.

      Definitely go with the 400.

Unless you’re get sea level yes well worth the upgrade.

Thanks for the replies. Im at low elevation. I will be coming out of pocket for the upgrade so that does make it tougher. Seems like the consensus is go 400.

Its well worth the $2k. That is the one area I would suggest spending the extra. 360 is nice but the 400 is where its at.
              Oh Yeah!

i had the same question when buying new R23. here's what tige-indmar sent me. Other than the obvious additional HP and torque, these following additions made it a no-brainer for me to go 400:

360 does not have Fresh water sea strainer standard, 400 does

400 has multiple temperature sensors on the intake to maximize efficiency and power, the 360 does not have those sensors. Essentially it relies exclusively on the air fuel sensors to relay messages to the engine’s computer which is more inefficient

To that same point, when the engine diagnoses a problem with fuel burn, fuel/air mixtures, it is much more accurate in the 400. Also, if the engine were to have a problem and throw a code, the solution is much easier on a 400 because of all the sensors. We can determine the root cause much easier rather than hunting and pecking for a solution.

There is no fuel pressor sensor on the 360 like on the 400

We run a different, more robust, more expensive shift valve on the transmission for the 400 versus the 360.

On the drain plugs for the manifolds, we route a drain loop that has a single hand twist blue plug on the 400 versus the 360 that has two brass manifold plugs. Same purpose, just much easier to service on the 400

i’ve never ever, ever, made the statement: “i wish my boat had less power”

OK HAHA Awesome I'm sold! Thanks everyone for chiming in especially Cnote for all the details. 400 is a done deal.
