    Help with engine options

    So I’ve been looking at buying a new boat for a few years and it’s finnaly going to happen. I’ve decided on a 2018 Z3 but haven’t been able to decide which engine option to go with. I’ve narrowed it down between the Indmar 460 and the 575 SC. I was hoping to get some input and opinions between the two. I’m looking to see if anyone knows/or has had any issues with the 575 SC. I’m looking at keeping the boat for a long time and am not sure what the reliability of the 575 SC will be after several hundred hours of use compared to the 460 non super charged engine..

    The majority of our boating is done with 4 people on our boat, however we have several trips a year where we have 8-10 people on the boat. Our home lake is at normal elevation with several trips a year to a lake at 5,500 foot elevation. The boat will be used 75% surfing and 25% tubing and cruising the lake.

    I’m curious to see if you think the 575 SC engine would be necessary for the trips to the lake at 5,500 foot elevation with 8-10 people on the boat?

    Which engine would you choose?

    Engine choice was the most difficult part of my boat purchase so I can empathize....

    I was unsure if I should take the 400 or 440 on my rzx2...

    I decided on the 440. In your case I’m confident that a 460 or 575 will do the job. If money is not at all a concern go big but I think the 460 would do everything you want and will cost less.

    Worst case you can change the prob. It’s a lot less expensive than the s/c and I doubt your buying the z3 for its high speed capabilities. Either motor will pull a lot of boat and people.

      imo the 575 turbo is overkill

        I think both will be more than enough, but if money is not an issue, it’s always more fun with a supercharged engine. It uses a blower, not a turbo.

          yep, sorry my bad, forced air. but statement still stands. it's a lot more than you'd ever need. but if mno, then heck, why not?

            the 575 is such a monster and its soooooooooo quiet. That alone does it for me.

              the nice thing about the 575 is the power allows you to prop the boat to do the best of both worlds. Haul and push big weight as well as cruise empty at 35-37 mph. A propped Z for heavy heavy weight wont ever do that....... 35-37 MPH Top speed which means a cruise somewhere in the mid to upper 20s.

                If the 2-1 was an option yes.

                The 460 Is only a slight bump over the 440 that is felt even less without the reduction. If it were me, I would go 400 or 575 with the 1.5-1 reduction. And the difference woulld be.... cruise and top speed. Thats it. A 400 can be propped to run heavy heavy weight even at elevation.

                  did you just say the 460 isn't worth the bump over the 440

                        Thank you everyone for your replies. Does anyone have any information as to whether the 575sc is less reliable than the 460? I’ve never owned or dealt with a SC engine so I know very little about them. Also, I saw on indmars website that the 460 and 575 require 93 octane. The highest octane I see locally is 91. Will it be an issue or cause problems to run 91 in either engine?
