Hey there Tige owners, I am in need of some advice and was hoping you Tige owners may Be able to help me out. I am currently up grading from a Centurion DD and looking at a 03 20v. My young family of 4 is wanting to have more room and therefore looking at the V drives vs DDs. My question to you all is, would the 20 V be a large enough boat to take 4 adults and 4 kids. Looking at the pictures of a 20V that is for sale makes it look awfully small. It's a long drive to go look at it that is why I am asking opinions. Should I be looking for the 21 or 22 V. We still want to slalom ski, knee board and surf so I don't want too large of a boat either. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I’ve never been in a 20V but I would bet it would be tight. My crew is typically 4-5 adults and 4 kids under 10 yrs in my 22V and we have plenty of room. I came from a Mastercraft DD and my 22V has been perfect for my crew. I’m glad that I was patient and waited to find a deal on a 22V vs going with a smaller V drive.

I have a 2000 21V and I love it’s size for my family and friends. We easily carry an additional family with us and the boat has plenty of room. As for the 21V, it would definitely work for you. My trailer does not have a fold away tongue, and it will not fit in a standard garage. I thought that was the purpose of the 20V with fold away tongue was to fit in a standard garage. I apologize for only answering part of the question.

The older boats are definitely smaller on the interior. For example I’d take a new 20ft but wouldn’t even consider a 20v. A friend of ours 22ve is very comparable in size to our old r20.
The weight ratings of boats don’t seem to be too accurate, not all manufactures included tower and miscellaneous accessories. But yes Tige builds a very good boat.
What’s your budget?

The first Tige I was in was exactly what you are looking at. We had 4 adults and 5 kids between the families on board and it was roomy enough. Shortly after being on the boat I had the opportunity to buy it and we just weren't ready financially. When we were ready a 21V came along and we have been very happy with the room. The kids get to bring friends and there is never a shortage of room. The only thing I didn't like about the 20V was the walkthrough. It also seems as if you sit deeper in the 20V than the 21V, not a bad thing IMO. Our 21V will fit in a standard 2 car garage at a diagonal with the platform off, tower down, and tongue folded. I've never heard anyone complain of having too much room on board. Good luck and happy boat hunting!

The crossover from wood to composite really only saved around 100lbs total. The 2004 would have been the first year without wood.Oh Yeah!

I had 4 adults and 7 kids on my 22i this past weekend and there was not much stepping over anyone surprisingly. The 22i would be my recommendation up until you mentioned surfing. The 22i can make a surfable wave but not as good as a V would. My question is what kind of slalom wave are you after (recreational or tournament) vs what kind of surfing wave are you after. If you are only a recreational slalom then a V would suffice.

I personally don't boat with kids often but, Personally find that 9 adults in a 21 ft is my comfort limit. Assuming kids are smaller there is some more wiggle room in there. You can get more than 9 in but its starts getting cramped. Assuming 4 adults and 6 kids Id say its do-able. Only other recommendation from there is look at 23' boats.

I was always surprised at how big the 20v was inside. The bow is small but the main cockpit is very big and very deep for a 20ft boat. There’s no reason two families of 4 wouldn’t be perfectly comfortable all day. I’ve surfed one and it wasn’t very good but, that was a long time ago and it really wasn’t set up well. The platform was dragging bad and it really killed the wave. I have no doubt with the platform trimmed and perhaps a gate and a good ballast set up, it could be a good little surf boat.
Old Tiges are way overbuilt. The hulls themselves are twice as thick as anything else that was being put out. That is why they are so heavy. I’m not exactly sure if an ‘03 20v would have wood stringers and floors but I think they don’t. Everyone was switching over to composite construction at that time thanks to Malibu’s wildly successful anti-wood marketing campaign.
My favorite old V-drive though is the 21v. So easy to surf. The one wake on most boats that is the toughest to really get consistently good is the surf wake. Slalom wakes are what they are (which are not too bad for heavy V-drive that the 21v is). Wakeboard wakes IMO aren’t a concern as it’s pretty easy to build them and go out and huck your carcass around. The only reason to have the best wakeboard wakes in the world is because you are a complete ripper. Most aren’t so what’s the point? They are really nice on the 21v though. Any decent rider can throw whatever tricks they might have in their bag, no problem. That leaves the surfwake which in the past could be fairly elusive to really get right on earlier boats. The 21v is a no brainer here. It’s great right out of the box. You can get away with a basic 400lb sac on each side and suckgate and it’ll put a really nice wake out all day everyday. It’s a very easy wake to surf and when you are learning, it makes all the difference. Plenty of potential to really start building it up as well. You'll get your chance, smart guy.
