    Tige pre 2150 wake?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1997 pre 2150 but because it is in the process of having an engine overhaul I can't test drive it. We are mainly skiers and I'm wondering about the wake from this boat. Presently we are skiing behind a 1992 Larson Lazer I/O (5.0l V8) but a friend has been taking us out in his Mastercraft 190 and now we would like to upgrade to a tournament boat. We ski about 80% of the time and Wakeboard the rest so if the wake from this boat is more suited to wakebaording we may pass and wait for a different opportunity. I would be keen to hear from anybody who ownes a pre 2150 and uses it primarily for Slalom.

    Thanks,

    Phil

The 2000 and earlier hulls were designed for slalom. The addition of taps/weight makes a really good wake for wakeboarding. I also have a friend with a 190 MC and he is jealous of the wake on my 97 20'.

eh. Just...eh....that is all I have to say about that hull. I have ridden it a few times, and have not been super impressed. It was a slalom designed hull, so you can't really blame it, but even with weight, the wake was just...small. It is not a bad shape. There is a fair amount of wash, but nothing I couldn't deal with. FYI, when I rode it, we had two 500 lb sacs on either side of the motor, 4 people in the back, 3 up by the driver. We tapped it around 6-7, but 8 the wake fell over. I just really didn't feel any pop, and going back to my 04' Switch V, it felt like a whole different ballgame.

Still a really nice boat, not a bad wake, just not big. Or even sizeable. Felt very "I-O'sh"
to me, but a little more solid

I have the same boat. The wake is wider than most boats.

IMO - This boat does not do well with ballasts. With that being said it is necessary to add some weight under the glove compartment to balance the boat out and stop some of the prop wash. If you weight it down you almost have to turn taps to 1 so the wake does not wash out.

If you are going to slalom ski make sure you tighten down the nuts that bolt the pylon to the hull before you attempt it.

I have no idea what you mean about this boat being IO'ish. I have had it since 2000 and never had that feeling.

Actually, no. My 1999 2100v is definitely not a slalom boat and there were some early v-drives as far back as '97. The '99 2100v was the top rated wakeboard boat in 1999.

I'd say the direct drives from that year are still more slalom boats, but unless it's a FSLM Comp it's not a pure ski boat. In general, the direct drives are more geared towards skiing and the v-drives more towards wakeboarding.

Over the years, Tige boats have gravitated away from pure ski boats and the hulls on their direct drives have acquired a more v-hull shape to them at the transom.

The 2150 should put out a pretty good slalom wake. TeamAllen has one, you may try sending him a PM and see what he says.

I have a 97 2150. I purchased it new from the dealer. We are about the same, 80% skiing, 15% wakeboarding and 5% other. We came from an I/O before our Tige'. The wake was a huge upgrade from our I/O. I have never skied behind a MC 190.

We are not slalom course skiers. The TAPS system works very well. The best part of the boat is the room inside. The wider beam makes a big difference. What motor does it have? Where are you located? I would be glad to discuss it with you further. The boat is not perfect. I could tell you some things to look for.

I have what is essentially the same boat although mine is the last run of that particular hull (2000) and the designation changed to 22i. I absolutely love mine. I don't think your going to get as good a wake as a 190, but for everything else, the wake will be more than enough for you. The slalom wake doesn't start to lay down untill you get it over 34 mph. Once there (34+), it's still a sizealbe bump, but nothing a good skier can't overcome. If you're training for nationals, it might not be the boat for you, but if you're a boater that does some hardcore skiing, you should take a real good look at it. The wakeboard wake can be awesome with the right set up. Once again, not the best in the world, but better than just about any D-Drive of the day. The surf wake is five star. With minimal ballast (500 lbs and 5 or so people), it will give you a good hip-high wake that is pure transition all the way up. The 2150 will also cruise like a Cadillac. I'm betting your buddie's 190 will knock the fillings out of your head when out on some open water. The 2150 is one of the few boats around that will perform as well as it does in all aspects.

I'll give it rough water ride...it is great even in chop.

What I mean by IO'sh is that I couldn't get the wake to clean up, even after I worked on weight distrobution for a while. Maybe it was my error, but it still felt a little shaky.

I have a 2150 also. I don't carry ballast and I think it's a great slalom ski boat above 35mph as stated above. Below that you have a medium sized wake good for wakeboarding. I added a monster tower for wakeboarding as mine didn't have a tower when I got it.
