    Tige RZ2 or Axis A20

In the market for an upgrade for next summer. Buying new is not an option so used is fine. of course there's a ton out there, but based on vicinity currently the 2 top runners are a 2008 Tige Rz2 or a 2015 Axis A20. I've been doing my own research on both but am a little curious what the Tige universe opinions are? I'm a skier as well as half my group the other half loves surfing, not much wakeboarding and tubing is always enjoyed.

the Tige looks pretty standard with tower, bimini and Taps. has a pretty worn carpet and 300hours but overall great shape. Pricewise about 48

the Axis has 800 hours but has every bell and whistle they offer including wedge and surf gates, interior looks decent. However I'm thinking will require a prop change as it has a wakeboard prop. Pricewise 38(I'm assuming due to the hours)

So out of curiosity what say you?

RIGHT?!?!?! That's commitment. other than a trans rebuild, maybe, which is no big deal to me I've got it down to about a weekend if I have all the parts, I'm not to worried about the hours on the motor.

The A20 is a good boat, they are budget models of Malibu. Haven't been on the A20 but spent a fair amount of time on a 16 A23. The wave is OK, it's a Malibu wave. Not a bad thing but it's just a unique wave, that comes with some pros and cons. Personally I shy away from 20' boats by any maker as there just isn't enough boat to go around. After ballast, storage, and people your walking all over everything. Coming from your 21 foot now even a direct drive you will miss that extra foot.

The RZ2 is also a good boat, won't have a surf system but as I am local to you I can get you in touch with some people to fix that right off the bat. Tige is a better made boat IMO compared to Axis. It will ski well, surf well, and drag a tube. Will feel a ton larger than your 21i being a v drive and foot longer. Will handle chop better, more storage, it's few steps up in my opinion over Axis.

I try to be as unbiased as possible, I'm not a brand basher every boat has it pros and cons including tige. Shoot me a PM though I may be able to work something out between you and a dealer that fit your budget.
My life's journey is not ending up looking pretty, its sliding in broadside, used up, worn out, screaming "What a Ride"

Your comparing a smallish 20 footer to a fairly large 22. No comparison size wise. If you routinely have 5-6 people or more the larger RZ2 is a no brainer.

How long do you plan to keep this boat and what kind of hours do you put on. These motors will run easily beyond 2000 hours if cared for, however 800 hours on a 2 year old boat is a TON. Its going to turn off 90%++ of buyers. So if you plan to ever sell the boat that is going to be an issue unless you plan to keep it 10 years putting 20 hours a year on to balance it out.

1000 hours seems to be the major number where people start saying NOPE NO WAY and NEVER. If your a 75-100 hour a year kinda guy you could pretty quickly have a 4 year old boat with 1000 hours on it. If you ever wanted to sell... that is a tough sell my friend!! You'd pretty much have to give it away.

If you think you want it I'd hit the guy at the knees with a low ball offer. Likely that is the only that boat is gonna move. Between now and Christmas is the BEST time you will ever find to steal a boat. If someone needs it gone the deal will never be better than right now. I bought a 47 footer last week for half what its worth in the spring. Probably 40-50K below spring value. Made what I thought was a crazy offer and happened to catch the guy on the right day.... I'd only buy the A20 for what your buddies will say was a CRAZY DEAL ever time they ride in the boat.

I would bet 100$ that over 200 hours of those 800 are idle time. Typically a boat like that with that many hours is a guy that never keys off. I would guess that a bulk of the boats I scan, 30% of hours are idle time. Would certain encourage getting it hooked up to Diacom and getting an hour per RPM history.

Surf gate is nice but slapping a shaper on the side of the rz2 will net you about the same gain and give you 2 more feet of boat with a nicer overall finish IMO

Rz2 with GSA for the win. Are you referencing the red Rz2 we have sitting at germaine? or something else?

2015 with 800hr...you sure that was not a club boat? Well maintained could be ok if you plan to keep the boat long term, but like other said it will be much harder to sell. If it was a club boat, run! Either way, if you are considering it, I would find out.

careful on axis. I was looking at them recently (new '17 and '18), ultimately decided on Tige R23, for lots of reasons. One of them is Axis takes shortcuts on hull fiberglass and construction to save $. Lots of hull flex in choppy water will lead to fiberglass cracks. Axis wedge is also manual, except new ones this year. PITA to adjust, which you will want to do almost every time changing riders or sports. There are other quality issues to pay attention to, you need to sit in one. Also to me aesthetically not pleasing, but that's personal preference.

800hrs....wow. no way. with your budget you can get a quality boat but with many fewer hours. Axis There is value out there... keep looking.

I can only speak on behalf of the RZ2 because have an 08 purchased in September of 2015 with only 200hrs for $44K w/the MP 340HP, so I'd think you'd be able to get a better price.
If I'm not surfing, I'm making money to surf.

That is a high price for a 2008 RZ2 that isn't pristine, IMHO.

Keep in mind what has been said about the Axis boat hours....It's purely public perspective that high hours are bad. The boat is only 2 years old and has lots of life left in it. But because it has more hours than most boats, you will take a beating on resale. Assuming maintenance can be verified, that boat has lots of hours left. 38K seems like a lot. I pretty regularly get behind a 2014 Nautique that belonged to a professional skier in Florida, and it has 1500 hours on it. It runs as good as the day it came off the lot. Because of the hours, the guy got a smoking deal on it which made the run to Florida from Utah worthwhile.
                          Be excellent to one another.

thanks for the input everyone, My original thoughts pretty much followed along with the group. I'm going to let the Axis go down the road and keep looking for something else. I didn't know about the hull construction info, and after a little more looking into, the consensus is right on about cheap hulls with alot of flex. I'm reading more and more everyday about all the companies out there. I really kind of would like to stay with Tige. I've liked some of the Mastercrafts but I don't think my pocket book would allow that. However the Sangers are really starting to grow on me.
