    18 RZX3 Vs RZX2

first post, hopefully a new RZX3 or RZX 2 owner very soon.

So the family is looking at a new boat. We have decided on the RZX3 or the RZX2. We went to our local marina and were able to sit and crawl around a 2018 RZX2 and a 16 RZX3. My wife likes both boats, she favors the 2, I favor 3. Her only concern about the 3 is that the boat is deeper and she feels she can not see out of it the same as she can the 2. Anyone have any experience in the 3 vs a 2, and can chime in about how smaller people (Under 5'4") feel when they are in the boat. Her biggest concern is that when we are sitting she won't be able to see the water behind the boat.

    Thanks

Its not thatttttt deep. I have had both. My wife is 5'1, she can see out of the 3 no problem. The 3 runs with a little more bow down attitude at surf speed then the 2 IMO. Both are fantastic boats, Although I currently am in a 18RZX3 I still stick behind my opinion that the 2 builds a better overall wave when dialed.

The 3 has loads of more storage, and to me is more comfortable to drive and cruise around. The 2 is more sporty without a doubt.

Thank you for the reply. We boat on lake winnipesakee in NH, it’s the largest lake in NH and it gets rough most weekends between the wind and the boat traffic. I want the 3, because I think it will handle rough water better then the 2. I surfed the 2 this past summer and it was good, but needed more time to dial it in. I also thought the prop on the two needed to be more aggressive. I currently have an 09 Supra 21V Launch with upgraded ballast, prop, and GSA tabs. It’s good throws a big wake but does not have a ton of push for heavier people. Tough decision to have.

The two boats handle rough water the same. Nearly identical bottom.

My thought process was the 3 would ride a little drier on rough days due to the added free board and extra 400 lbs of dry weight. Do you think I am wrong in the assumption. Thanks again for the feedback. It really has to be blowing hard for me to decide not to take the current boat out, sometimes you just have to slow down,

To me, the RZX3 feels more more "protected", but I stayed dry in the 2 and the 3 in snotty water and the boats rode pretty much the same.

Not sure which motor was in the boats you drove but for the none s/c boats 2018 on they get the 2 to 1 which should address your concern about sluggish of the start.

Some boats stay super dry and some are more wet. At cruise empty both boats will be bone try. At surf speed, the weight layout can do different things to how the keel is cutting water, its true in almost every boat. Some boats you can weight out of it and some boats you can just manage the situation. The 2 is more touchy in that regard then the 3, but make no bones, you can take a 3 in certain chop, weight it and cut the chop in a certain angle and send buckets into the bow, same can be said about a 2 and almost any boat I have been in for that matter.

The only time these new boats are going to be at all wet is at surf speed... at cruise everything that is currently out will stay pretty dry.

What changes were made from 2016 rzx to the new 18s performance wise. I know all the technology but overall surf wake.

I am curious also; our surf cadre is getting a ‘16 replaced with an ‘18 with any luck. We will be behind that bad boy en masse for sure!

Thanks everyone for the responses. In the process of building my RZX3, still on the fence between which boat I am going to order. Can anyone tell me the base motor for the 3, I thought I read that it was the 440 motor, and the base motor for the 2 was the 400?

Correct. For 2018 the RZX2 and 3 both come standard with 2:1 Transmission. The 2 has the 400 motor stock and 3 has the 440.

Thanks. I got that from the Factory Rep this morning also. Also, was told both boats are shipping with a 17" diameter prop, pitch is different depending on elevation. Working out numbers now with my dealer, getting close!
