Here is their long term plan

    1) people who buy $120 k boats will buy another in 5 years
    2) Warratee said boat and electronics for 5 years
    3) sell new boat to same people at 5 yrs (*more likely to sell since older screens might mean unreliable screens. )
    4) Now 5 yr old boat goes to someone else. Everything works well for another 5 yrs then screens go out
    5) now 100% dependent on aftermarket screen industry which will likely be thriving since nobody wants to throw away a 10yr old boat

In short...I don't think any boat company cares what their screens are doing in 10-15 yrs

Do you mean aftermarket as in the original manufacturer will still be producing and selling consumer direct or a true aftermarket company building a 1-off replacement? Sadly, I dont see murphy or medallion supporting the consumer much after the original OEM part has gone out of warranty. Even though the original R&D was likely amortized into the projected OEM sales, the cost of parts and labor to support so few parts, is likely not worth it to them. They may see more profit in just licensing the components to someone else to build, providing that group feels they can come in making a profit. The key hinges on the number of possible units to be sold.

I think true aftermarket. Once all these screens stop working someone will step up. I'm thinking a slick power distribution unit with an iPhone/iPad app to control it all.

My question to tige, is why not start running everything on a nmea 2000 network? Would make future compatibility much easier you would think. Like how mercury has their vessel view that runs on nmea 2000 where you can use lowrance depth finders to display and control the system. All they need is their vessel view link box to convert their signal to other devices. It also uses wifi so you could use a tablet. Then tige just needs this one box, the only problem i can see is updating the system, which im sure there could be a way to do that. Lund is going to a fully integrated touch system which could be easily retrofitted in the future if something goes wrong.

The system runs on CAN J1939 so it is on a common protocol. Like NMEA 2000 each item has its own custom address and whomever is developing the controller for it has to write to those addresses. The vessel view system is mercruisers standalone controller. They write the software with addresses for approved items in their system. Works the same as the Econtrols and Medallion setups. Just different controllers.
            Oh Yeah!

Tige has some... and I am sure that when they dont, medallion will still be able to supply it. I also think a TT2 can go in with some tweaking. I agree, with the cost of screen tech plummeting like TV tech, I think the harder stuff to get will be things like the chromax overalay lol.

I don't believe the customer base the industry has now wants a less expensive boat. Otherwise you would see Hayday sell a ton of boats and the top 3 volume ski/wake boat companies would not be the most expensive brands.
If you were referencing my pictures, that was of the Murphy lineup. I believe Medallion is still around, just not anywhere near what they used to be, Murphy has really taken over.
