Actuator changes from 17 to 18

I was looking at pictures of a 2017 rzx2 and pics of my 2018 and I noticed that the actuators are on a different angle and that they are no longer bolted to the swim platform.

    Picture 2 is a 2018

    Picture 1 is a 2017

yes. Dont know if the change is related to the repeated actuator failures or just coincidence. IMO, the new angles look like they will require more torque as the change reduces the leverage. Just an observation.

I was told that the change was to take some stress off of the platform and for easier removal of the platform

        Mike,
We picked up a 17 r21 from Tige that was our shop boat last summer. It had the 18 style plates and actuators. Didn't post as I assumed it was and r and d boat and sure enough here they are. That being said they had the "Gen 2" actuators on them. They failed as well. Seems the actuator failures truly come down to the wiper seal. Time will tell with the new Gen3. Nice part is this seems to fix the plate camming up under pressure and binding issue that we saw on some boats this last year.
It's not just Tige. Tech at the Centurion dealer says he has an enzo in right now with sluggish actuators according to customers. We didn't really see issues with our skiers choice boats. Never checked stroke length but am wondering if it was Lencos of a certain stroke length that were affected by the seal.

          Hardware is all the same.

The change was not to take pressure off the Z and other platforms because of failures, it was to remove the upper actuator mount from the platform all together. Why? So that people can store the boat or take the platform off and not have actuators and lines attached all over the place.

The change was made for the Z after it was tested on the RZX. Think about the different mounting tabs and hardware needed the way it was before. Now every boat in the line is the same, with the same style plates etc. Function and production.

The wiper seals are a completely different issue. I will say the new gen3 actuators are monsters. No issues on any boat to my knowledge.

Rob, also in the rzx line the actuators have never been mounted to the swim platform. They have been mounted directly to the hull underneath.

The Z and other series boats were mounted to the platform most notably the Z.

Only change in the RZX line and pictures above are the lower actuator mounting orientation and also the upper mounting location and orientation.
