    2:1 = poor mans supercharger

I agree 100% that the 400-440 is plenty...never said otherwise. It's the 360 I'm not in favor of.

Marginally sufficient is a nice way of saying I can live with it but would like more power..

It is a surfing machine for sure...with max ballast, 800 lbs lead and a 12 pitch prop. Surfing is my absolute least favorite thing to do on a boat. Can't stand to watch it or drive it. Soo...I set mine up to do what I enjoy which is basically live at 18-32 MPH. That's the beauty of the Z3. If it had a flatter deadrise in back it would be perfect for me.

Actually, its more efficient. Think of the difference between a 4DW in 4-hi compared to 4-low. Same engine power, but more power at the wheels. Can you imagine the amount of engine power it would to = that same 4-low power?

Next, we have to consider the bigger props we can turn with the 2:1. Regardless of the engine power, eventually the engine will exceed the capability of a prop. Going to a larger wheels, like wider tires and a race car, improves performance. The 2:1 allows for the larger wheel, without using up so much engine power, to turn said larger wheel.

I think you could surf just fine with the 360 and a 12 pitch prop. But you limit other things and it may hurt resale. If your fine with a one trick surf pony and don't mind cruising at slower speeds due to a aggressive prop and aren't worried about potential resale issues then you would probably be fine with the 360. I don't think I would be happy with the 360 since I live at higher speeds but still want the power for a good slalom hole shot. With a 440, 14 pitch prop is as high as I can go without me thinking the hole shot sucks. I would probably be in the 12-13 range with the 360 and that puts the RPM higher than I like. In any case, just my opinions and how I use my boat. Most people just surf, drink and do a little tubing.

As I’ve said before, over 5k in a older Z3 with the pcm 343 at surf speeds and with a low torque prop it’s more than enough, even for wakeboarding. But for the cost of the upgrade to the 400 I still think it’s 100% worth it.

Out here in the Midwest “marginally sufficient” and “plenty” aren’t equivalent 🤣.

Ok, we can be done with that. Get the 400 at least!

More efficient then a 1.5/1 575? I dont think so, thats a big HP difference that even the reduction cant cover, but man is that gap early in the power band way smaller then before. The 2/1 in a perfect scenario where the clearance is there to run a correct diameter prop etc is amazing, its a huge boost for the non SC motors. If the ideal numbers arent there in regards to clearance etc then its a lower gear at the expense of some RPM. Power to the water with Tiges 2/1? Great, but not close to the 575 with the 1.5/1. As Fuel efficient? I dont think so. A correctly propped 575 is surprisingly efficient. With the 2/1 you just need a lot of room. 17 inch prop runs awesome bolted up to a 2/1 with the 400-460 in my opinion it just does it at the expense of a little more money at the pump. I think we played with the math one day and still it would take something like 20 years or so for the cost diff at the pump to justify the 575 upgrade.

At this point still, little to no testing has been done on a supercharged 1.5/1 running a 16-17 inch prop but that is soon going to change .

The 2/1 reduction gives you something like an instant 60lbs of Tq across the Power band roughly. I would say a poor mans SC is somewhat accurate in regards to bottom end response. The 460 with the 2/1 is a rocket, not the same as the blower motor but its really nice.

The brute throw your head back HP in the 575 is still untouchable especially as it starts to wind up. But do you really need it is the question.

The 400 in an rzx absolutely astonished people.......

Plenty is my bar for sufficient.....see rule #2. So marginally sufficient means it's plenty, but only just barely. I don't cry about the power but I don't gush over it either. The 14 pitch prop has a great holeshot but it would be cool if the 14.5 had the same holeshot. Who knows, maybe it will at sea level.

As you say, enough. Get at least the 400. Better resale. Better performance band.

The 14.5 should..... the half inch should only help transfer more power to the water without really robbing anything.... the pitch might need to go down a smidge or the cup decreased but not much if at all.

                    R23 vs Z3 vs 'Bu 23lsv?

I have a z3 23” 2016 and I use to love it until it start with a check engine from that moment till 7 month later the problem never stop I send it to fix 1 thing and 3 start to fail
And the factory don’t give a dam now 7 months later my boat still with the dealer and I can’t use it and the factory is telling excuses not solution

Lot of tech talk going on that's correct and debatable all at the same time. You said it though. You want a stump pulling 23' for your elevation. Don't squabble over 1500 if you arent paying cash, put the 400 in it and put an Acme 2419 wheel on and not worry about power vs weight ever. Especially considering your elevation and the fact that top end/slalom speeds seem to be the least of your considerations. With all the money you are saving stepping into an r series why not drop the 1500(of the banks money, probably two payments worth) into a 400, and if buying new you get that nice fat warranty. I'd rather have two more payments than a boat I question or regret, especially if custom ordering. AGAIN, just a poor tech tho. Not my money.

elevated, you quoted my post but it seems you missed the context of my response you quoted. In you post, you seem to agree with me as well as disagree.

I understood your context. I quoted it so people could know what I was referencing not to say you are or arent wrong. My point was that in a perfect world it can definitely close the gap but it wont be as efficient as the 575 1.5/1 especially in regards to TIGE.

So yes I agree with your example but I also disagree in terms of Tiges 2/1 platform as it currently sits.
