    Z3 Steering cable

Has anyone had to replace a Z3 steering cable? I'm wanting to find out how hard of a project this would be to tackle myself. It's a 2015.

Our steering is super tight. I'm sure the cable is rusted since the boat lives on a lift and doesn't get all the water out of the bilge.

I'm trying to keep from taking it off the water and to the dealer since our surf days are limited now. Any advice on changing one?

    Thanks,

    Billy

Changed quite a few. Real trick besides accessing rudder port area to undo tiller at linkage is needing the ability to cut the cable. I use a small air grinder with cut off wheel. If you don't have power at slip probably the only thing that would do it is a big ol pair of bolt cutters, but never tried it. Your old cable is most likely routed under your tank. save yourself some headache and go over it when you pull the new one. Hopefully its not zip tied to other harness stuff under helm, or heater hoses and whatnot in the bilge. Its not supposed to be, and usually isn't but every once in a while you get hosed, and often you cant get to the offending zip tie to cut it easily. Super frustrating. Theres a handful of other little tricks to this project. Tying end of cable so it wont extend while pulling it is huge.

Had our 2013 Z3 out last weekend and noticed steering super tight. Anyone know what teleflex steering cable or part # I need to replace it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Not sure if you've attempted this yet, but here is a vid of the entire process on our 2013 Z3 (please forgive the poor lighting and not-great quality... it was off my GoPro headband): https://youtu.be/mbxO5TzYvxQ (23 mins). Tools used were the same as what was mentioned in the steering thread here: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...steering-cable. I would add to the list, however:

-An assortment of phillips screw drivers/screwgun (to remove panels)
-A grease gun with marine lithium grease (for the rudder box and to lube the cable end inside the support tube)
-Plenty of zip-ties to reattach things and/or get them out of your way
-Channel-lock pliers (if you're like me and your 1-1/8" crescent wrench won't fit in the workspace)
-A ratchet wrench with an assortment of fittings
-You will definitely want an LED worklight. Something you won't heat up in the small area.
        -A wire coat-hanger

I did not need to remove my existing cable first. There was a reasonable amount of room to work with... but your mileage may vary. If you're a big guy (I'm 6'-2" and around 260#), plan on getting into some really tight spaces and being uncomfortable. A (much skinnier) friend of mine came over to help towards the end and he could very easily get in and out of the rear lockers. Lesson learned... pay your smaller friends with pizza and drinks and let them climb down into the bilge

        Hope this helps!
