This may very well be the best thread ever on this forum. SONIC that is absolutely incredible work! Kinda like a forum version of American Restoration (remember that show?).

While I am envious of your skill set, I am more jealous of your shop!!! You should post some pics of that set up as well - I'm sure a bunch of us would like to see it.

So after playing with the boat the last few weekends I've come to the conclusion that the slapper style gates aren't going to cut it. They make a really nice wave with minimal ballast, but once you crank some weight in there the wave washes out. I think it's a combination of the plates being underwater and water washing over them and the angle they were mounted at (PO mounted).

So I decided to build some GSA style plates and see how that goes on the 23v hull. I hope it will allow me to run all this ballast I've got lol.

Fab was super simple enough, plasma cut, bend, tig weld.
Mounting the actuator was a bit of a pain. I went with Bennett Bolt's over lencos as the bennetts have a lifetime warranty (and they are about half the cost of lencos)
A lot of trial and error and they are mounted.

Ended up with 30.4 degrees in the stowed position and 12.7 in the fully lowered position. I think this should give me enough travel.

Just wiring left to do then lake test this weekend!

This is the only picture I have unfortunately.

This is with 4 people in the boat, 250lbs of lead in the front and about 2500ish pounds in the rear lockers.

First thing is I need a bow bag, I already knew this just haven't done it yet. Going to grab a 750 v sack and plumb it in in the next week or so.

Second thing is even with the rear lockers pretty much completely full I don't think the rear is sunk enough.

Scotts (Gumby) boat throws a beautiful wave and he's about 6" deeper in the water than I am.

So plan of attack is to get the bow bag in there and fill it up and see what happens. From there I'll play with the size of the tabs and/or add weight to the back and see what happens.

Tuning is half the fun right!?

First off, everything you have done here is absolutely incredible quality of work!! I have been doing some research on these GSA or similar tabs to retrofit on my 24v, I would make sure that you have them, so that when retracted go much higher towards the swim deck. In looking at the factory installs they retract up at a pretty sever angle, so as to not affect the wave on that side. There is a whole thread on tigeowners about a few Tiges that came out the factory with the brackets on wrong and it didn’t allow them to retract up far enough and affected the wave. With your weight, and those tabs I would think that your wave would be much better. I hope this make sense... Please keep sharing, you have given me and many others great inspiration, this boat is beautifl! ..

They go up as far as possible at 37 degrees I think it's more than GSA recommends so I should be good there.
The non surf side doesn't seem to touch the wave so i don't think it's messing anything up.
(scott) Gumby thinks they may be working too well and delaying the convergence too much. I'm not 100% convinced either way but I need to get back out there and fill the ballast ALL THE WAY and see what happens.

We ran it with a nauticurl as well that works a treat on Scott's boat but it didn't make nearly as good of a wave on my hull, so that leads me to believe that I in fact do need more weight.

Do you have any pictures of the slappers you tried? I've been playing with a diy suck gate on my 22v and struggle to find a good spot as i feel i have it to low. I will remove some stickers to mount it higher in the rear. If i move it 4-5' forward i have some success depending on weighting.
Did you notice a big increase in drag with the gsa tabs?

Tabs look good. Did you increase the height between the flats? The bends look taller as well. Hopefully they aren’t mounted too far inboard. Not much you can do about that with the spray pockets. Wave just looks real long and low. Maybe try dumping all the weight up front and filling the rear full. Then start adding to the front as you go and see what happens. You need to sink the rear more and those big tabs just lift it right out of the water.
