I have a project I am building that I have to drive past to of our local lakes a least twice a week. Yesterday on Echo res. at 7:30 am air temp in the low 40's and water temp in the low 60's there was some guys out, when I got to my project there was still 4" of snow from the weekend, I say this just to point out it hasn't been warm. My rule is nothing below 50 air or water even with a drysuit. Maybe I'm just a baby. How about you? I know you sothern sun chasers can go all year under those parameters.

Somewhere I once heard someone quote the 100 degree rule: the air and water temp need to add up to 100 degrees to avoid quick hypothermia. I don't really buy it, but it is a reasonable rule of thumb.
I went once with Lovin' Powell when the wind was blowing hard, water 45 degrees and air 45 degrees. Despite my drysuit, it is still one of the coldest moments of my life, including a number of winter mishaps in the mountains.Be excellent to one another.

just got back from havasu yestrday. did not know it was going to be 30mph winds. my 21i took those 3-4 ft. waves very well, no waves over the bow but ton of spray drenched everything and everyone. i was having blast maneuvering through that off shore like rough that it didnt really bother me as much as everyone else, but dont wanna do that again. water about 68 air 89. next day ( monday sept.18 ) was the very best conditions I have seen ( only a hand full of boats on the lake, so even better ).Last edited by mudduk; 09-21-2006, 12:12 AM.
